Hi KK,

I don't have to tow her far, just a couple of hundred meters.

I have a Toyota Landcruiser 4.2 Diesel Turbo, heaps of grunt. I'll use low range in the splitter box to pull her up the slip.

I use it for the 280/315 in high range and she doesn't even notice it so a slight grunty struggleout of the water will be water of a ducks back in low range. Failing that if it is too much I'll use the club tractor.

I have found a company here in Auckland that will construct the launching trailer (http://www.xpresstrailers.co.nz/BOAT+TRAILERS/Tandem+Axle/26-30ft+-+Triple+Axle.html ), just deciding on triple or quad axle's. It will have carpeted beds instead of the rollers in their add, no brakes and no suspension all for approx $15k. Like I said it only has to go approx 100metres from park to water and back each time.
If/when it happens I'll post some pics.

If someone with a 340 of this vintage has a picture of the below waterline profile it would be really helpful, side on and stern on.
I've asked Sea Ray for details too.

I'm still SO NEW to this boating game that I'm still trying to figure out how do you get to that figure of .8 MPG. Maybe it's on my smartcraft and I haven't found that display screen yet:huh::smt021

On mine, it's on the center gauge, bottom, but I don't have the systems view. But the best way is to fill up, cruise, then fill up. X miles divided by Y gallons = .8 mpg (usually).

The gas math is always a topic of discussion out on our lake. If I can get .8 mpg with a 225 gal tank I can count on a 180 mile trip. Our challange is that our anchorage is approx. 120 miles one way with no gas stations in between. So, we will need to make some alternatve arrangements.

The 340 is a great boat!
I had a 340 with BIII's and you can expect 1 mpg, 30 gph, AVERAGE. Cruising speed is 3400-3700 RPM, if you go under 2,900 you will come off plane. Every boat is different but this was true for mine.

Thanks Jon. Canadian gallons are 4.54 liters and US gallons are 4 liters. So with one mile to the US galon, we have a good range of travel.

When our lake thaws in late June, we will be good-to-go.

Has anyone had to access the emergency port holes to undo the pins installed to raise the hatch. Specifically, has anyone had to reach in and literally pull the pins:huh:

The reason why I'm asking is cause, I just came back from the marina after a very brief cruise and I was at the dock dicking around with the boat and I said to myself, "Let me check these port holes out and see how hard it is to really pull the pins out". Well, the port side was pretty easy, but the starboard side, I could not access:smt013. I could not get my arm in deep enough and feel for for the pin.

The starboard side hatch lift is making a LOT of grinding noise when I lift and close the hatch. I put a grease gun to her with some "Green Grease" from Autozone last week, and for a little while she sounded better but, I think I'm going to replace her anyway.

I'm no "Popeye" by any means, but on that starboard side, I just couldn't position myself to reach the pins. It just seems like my arm was not able to turn and reach the pin. Or, should I empty all the lifejackets out of that stern seat and lay inside of that to make the turn / reach:huh:

Also, I took the starboard side step cushion home to experiment with cleaning it. There's a lot of construction going on at the marina right now, cause they are raising the flood wall 3 more feet. There is all kind of sand and dust flying around and landing on our boats. I DO keep my boat covered with ALL the canvas but the dust and sand find their way inside the cockpit. I have tried the "Mr. Clean" magic eraser several times but that's just not getting it:smt009. I sprayed some Clorox Clean-Up stuff on it and used the Mr. Clean sponge along with some Dawn dishwashing liquid and very HOT water. I have to admit that it is cleaner than when I first started, but my real question is, HOW DOES ONE GET THE SEATS TO LOOK LIKE THE PEARLY WHITES:huh::huh::huh:

Has anyone tried that spray paint stuff that's supposed to be the "Original Sea Ray color" from these peoplehttp://www.bryndana.com/cchart.html

I have the SmartCraft systems view on my 04 340 but it doesn't have the function later models call Instant MPG, that's the number you are looking for. I have GPH and of course MPH off my GPS so have to work from that. I ran on a slack tide, smooth water and no wind with my daughter with her cell phone on calculator mode in hand to figure out MPG. Running 3400 to 3550 I got .9 MPG, 3200 dropped to .83, 3600 or 3650 I believe it was .85, so if I'm in a hurry or trying to beat weather I'll run 3600 or 3650. I believe in 05 they added instant MPG on the SmartCraft.

GPH doesn't really matter until you factor in the speed you are getting for a given RPM. At .9 MPG puts the range at 162 miles with a 10% reserve, of course you need to factor in wind and tide with that.

I only use Simple Green on my vinyl and it does a nice job. I have read the Magic Erasers are abrasive and should not be used on vinyl, it will take the finish layer off the vinyl.
 
Good 2 Go ... thanks for the info regarding the instant MPG on the SmartCraft - our 2005 should have that option.

The challenge we have is that we need to pack at least two weeks supplies on the boat which usually includes an additional 45 gals of gas. That combined with the weight of the tender and kicker, would probably affect performance and gas mileage as well.

Sounds like it's time for an axillary fuel tank, 45 gallons is a lot to carry in portable containers. Haven't heard of anyone doing that on a 340 but I'm sure it's possible.

My System View manual is for Version 3.xx, not sure what the xx is about but no Instant MGP. I found a manual online for Version 3.45 and it has the Instant MPG.
 
Oh, I just noticed you have Bravo III drives, your MPG should be better than what I get with inboard V-Drives.
 
Wow!!!!!! 45 gal. of gas in portable containers is like having an atomic bomb on board that is armed. Worked on large boats where we carried extra diesel fuel in drums on deck. I guess I must have lost my sense of adventure some where. Don't think I would do it with gas. 1 gal. gas =10 sticks of dynamite, so 45 gal. gas =450 sticks of dynamite. Nope, the situation sounds too explosive for me. Be safe.

I completely agree that a large amount of gas in unsafe. I use 13 gallon plastic containers (former chemical containers) that seal really well and we are very careful with them – we are non-smokers etc.

I understand now Brian. After going to Alaska last May I have a new understanding of what wilderness and pristine really are. We live on the water on the Chesapeake Bay and it is beautiful, but not as breath taking as Where you are.
