340 SUNDANCER THREAD

Hey guys (and gals), I found a little wheel laying in the sliding door track of our 02 340. Door still operates fine but I should repair.
Whats involved with the disassembly of this, any experienced people?
Thanks all!

My understanding of the door track is that the boat is basically built around that door. Many many man hours if you're wanting to get it out of there without destroying stuff...

thank you

I too have 27's in mine, Tbrown. Cost vs weight vs how much time you spend on the hook. Most of us weekend boaters will never want more than 27's. Days on the hook - you'll want bigger batteries most likely, even with a generator.

Hello all. Was looking at an older 330, when a 2000 340 became available. Read a lot about the water ingestion issues during those years. As I understand it, the main "fix" was installation of the water lift mufflers. The other thing mentioned is an additional spacer on the riser. Just doing a quick glance at yachtworld, it looks like less than 1/2 of boats for sale have had the muffler fix (for those with engine room pictures). Not sure about the riser extension. Given that the boats are 15+ years old and still going are they "safe" or just waiting for the right time to fail. My head tells me to skip these models altogether. What say you? Thanks in advance.

Golman25, most of the 340s of that vintage either had the problem fixed or the boat repowered by now. I have a 2000 340 with about 900 hours on the two 7.4 that still run very well with no issues.

Well, I just bought a 2001 2 weeks ago with the old style exhaust except I do have spacers installed between the manifolds and elbows (either 3" or 4". I actually just looked last night but didn't have time to measure). Unfortunately I wrongly thought that it was only the 7.4 Horizons that had the issue, but apparently I was wrong. Anyway, they are the original engines and have survived 16 years and 590 hrs, but I may update them when I do the bottom in a month or so just for peace of mind. I too was originally looking for a 330, but went the 340 route do to condition and layout. Good luck with your search!

Not too easy to see the spacers, but they are there.

This is not good... you should add the very-lift mufflers... Any Searay dealer should be able to tell you what you need, or you can contact Veri-lift... I believe the risers are 4"...
So are you saying the spacers are not enough? Most the the boats online looked exactly like tbrowns. Way less than 50% had the very lift mufflers.

One other note besides your spacers, it seems the "resonator kits" are installed also. I believe that was also an attempt at a fix to the water ingestion. If you look at the exhaust hoses coming off the elbows you see a hose clamp about 15-20 inches down. Those clamps are holding the "resonators" in place. I'm not sure how successful the resonators were but the water lift mufflers seemed to be the final solution. Here's what the resonators look like.

I have those. My mechanic calls them "turbulator plates"

Those are not "turbulator plates". What is referred to as "turbulator plates" fit between the exhaust elbow or spacer and manifold. Number 15 in the diagram below is the turbulator. They are meant to capture moisture as it collects in the elbow and dips back down into manifold. Number 26 is the resonator that is installed in the exhaust hose.

Thanks, I stand corrected. Now I know what he was referring to

New 01 340 owner needing to know what group size batteries fit in the trays. Buying some new ones and I'm not at the boat to check.

I have an '02 340DA, and last year we put 4 new Group 31 AGM batteries in, they fit the existing battery mounts.

Hi everybody, I am looking for some help, I have a 2005 340 [375 here in Aus] with twin 320s FWC on shafts and have an electrical problem which has me stumped.
When starboard batteries are energized very little works, no ignition, no instrumentation, even battery check gauge in panel shows nil reading even though batteries are fully charged and engine hatch lift works fine but only when starboard battery switch is energized which is how it should be.
Port side is fine, engine starts and runs just no instrumentation which I know is run from the starboard batteries.
My best guess is the ign switches are the problem but the fact that nil voltage is indicated in the check gauge has me a bit confused.
Any help would be greatly appreciated so thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply and sorry for the intrusion, I hadn't been on the site in quite a while and had misplaced my links.
