OK, I have mentioned some of my difficulties in another thread. I thought I would share the finished product. First, here is a list of what I put in:

4x MB Quart Q series QSD 216 component speakers (cockpit)
2x Kicker KM10 subwoofers (cockpit)
4x MB Quart Premium series PCE 216 component speakers (cabin)
1x MB Quart Premium series PWE 252 subwoofer (cabin)

1x MB Quart RAA1000 amp (cockpit subs)
1x MB Quart RAA4200 amp (cockpit speakers)
2x Rockford Fosgate 25 to Life Punch 75 amps (cabin sub and speakers)

Harmon Kardon Drive + Play Ipod interface/ controller (I also have the Clarion one , but it is awful.)

2nd Clarion remote at swim platform

Hisense HDTV tuner for galley TV

Audiovox 27" LCD HDTV/DVD

Now for the pix:

The first is the HDTV/ DVD. I got it at a VERY reasonable price at Costco. I was initially concerned about the weight, so I through-bolted a slim mount for security.

I also added an HDTV tuner to the standard galley TV. This one is nice because it fits in the narrow cabinets.

As far as the Audio, everything after the head unit is replaced. I ran 0-gauge power cables to the cabin sofa and put the 4 amplifiers in a space under the cushion.

I learned from mylast boat that I should just run the biggest power cables that I can and distribute them from the cabin. I ended up with 3 4-gauge runs to the batteries in that boat because I kept adding to it and had not planned accordingly.

I have 2 electronic crossovers in the hidden cabinet in the midberth. The lower crossover has since failed and been replaced with the same model as the upper one.

There is an MB Quart sub under the seat in front of the starboard closet

and MB Quart reference separates in the stock cabin locations. The forward speakers were truly a pain to replaced. Sea Ray didn't do me any favors here. I had to cut MASSIVE holes in the cabinets...

... to get this result

Here are the ceiling speakers.

The cockpit was much easier. I have MB Quart Q series components in the stock locations.

I wish the planned these better for stereo, but it actually sounds pretty good.

Here is the Kicker marine sub enclosure under the rear seat
pix049.jpg

And here is the sub enclosure that I made to fit under the captain's chair. It looks better in person than it does in this picture. I wish I had photographed it before I put it in, but I got anxious. It has the same sub as the other enclosure, but it is mounted facing up.

I added a Clarion remote to the transom. We probably spend more time on the U shaped lounge than the swim platform, so I made it accessible from either location.

pix048.jpg

I had added the Clarion Ipod interface, but it is useless. The Harmon Kardon Ipod controller is probably the best mod I have made. It is now in this boat as well as 2 of our cars.

I am still running the stock battery setup. I haven't run out of juice yet, so we'll see if I need to add anything (my children are 1 and 2 years old, so we can never anchor for very long anyways).

I will add some pix that I think are missing later. I hope this helps some of you who are looking for ideas.

Thanks for the pics....everything looks awesome...great job... :smt038 :smt038

You sure know how to make a guy gealous :smt001

I like the color of your dock line in the one picture  (U have the same)

All I want right now is a subwoofer in my boat

teekster,
could you describe the drive and play installation? The older version is getting fairly cheap on ebay with the new version out. Looks like yours is the original version.

It's quite simple. There is a central brain unit with connections for:

the Ipod
power/ ground
controller
display

I just tapped into the Clarion harness for the power connections (that way it is powered with the head unit), hooked up the aux input to the head unit, and ran the display and controller to the helm. They ship with some pretty good 3M adhesive if you don't want to screw them in place.

You are right about them getting cheap. I just picked up a spare for $20 + shipping

The harman/kardon controller...how does it do exposed to weather like that? I have one for the car and love it, had not thought about it for the boat unless I were to mount it in the cabin. I am just wondering how long it will work in the elements?

I put a plastic sandwich bag over it when I wash the cockpit. It has been rained on a little and suffered no ill effects. I would be less confident if I were in salt water.

Teekster....does your IPOD stay in the distribution panel where your head unit is? What head unit do you have?

OMG. You must really be an audiophile. I can't imagine what that must have cost. What will happen to all that electronic wizardry in the damp marine enviroment?

Teek.....

I know you installed a HDTV and a Hisense HDTV tuner....How do you get HD without cable and/or SAT TV or am I missing something

Good God man.....:wow:........... turn it up and I bet there's not a fish within a mile............. Looks great and I bet it freakin' rocks. I'm too new to my 280DA and the stock stereo blows. Good to meet another audiofile..... life's too short to listen to crappy sound.:smt038:smt038:smt038

The Ipod hides next to the starboard cushion in the midcabin. It was an easy place to run the cable, and my kids have not found it yet. If/ when they do, I'll have to find a better hiding spot.

I have an XMD3. It came with the boat. I have not seen a compelling reason to change it out yet.

So far, so good... the only things that stay exposed would be the arch speakers. I really doubt I will get into much trouble there. If I do, they are replaceable.

This is an old thread. I have since replaced the galley TV with a 15" Polaroid HDTV (not much available that fits in that spot). It has it's own HD tuner, therefore I took out the Hisense tuner. You can get "off-the-air" HDTV using the Glomex antenna in most locations. It's actually a better feed than cable or sat, provided you can get the signal. I will get some pictures when the boat thaws in the spring.

BTW, as of February 2009, you will lose the analog OTA signal

I actually did this to my 280 before this. The head unit is just fine, but the amplifier is laughable. It was actually worse in the 340, though.

In my 280, I put Polk db series components in the factory locations and added arch speakers. The closet in the midcabin was a good place to put some of the amplifiers. I also mounted an amp for the sub under the cockpit sink. By moving the mounts a little for the cooler, I was still able to retain the functionality of that space. My biggest mistake was putting a free-air sub next to the aft lounge. The sound was too variable depending on where you sat in the cockpit.

I actually preferred the speaker positions in the 280. The 340 is set up a little wierd with two arch speakers, a speaker next to the captain's feet, and a speaker on facing the transom door.

Oh and BTW.. how on earth did you get your sig pic so large?? PM me so we can keep it in the DL...:smt043 Sorry Wesley

?

This is the same size picture I used on SRO. What is the limit on pixels? I am typing this on an 11" subnotebook, so it's small on this end.

Teek......

I have a Glomex antenna on this boat and all previous boats as they come factory installed.....I have never been able to receive any quality picture from using the Glomex. The only quality picture I get is when I am at a dock and hooked up to cable.....This holds true for all of Cape Cod and up to Boston....You get HD by using only that. I just installed all new Samsung HD tv's in my 2007 36 Sedan. I am going to the Miami Boat show (as well as Boston) and getting HD on the boat is on the shopping list....I am at a dock 75% of t he time so hooking into a marinas cable is okay.

I don't get much of a standard TV signal. Your TVs need to have digital tuners and you have to run the channel search for digital stations. The Glomex antennae are decent at pulling UHF (almost all digital channels live here), but lousy at VHF (most analog channels).
