Im looking for a 34 Sundancer 2006 to 2008 low hrs.

What are the pros and cons of the engine choice, With v drives.

Thanks David.

While I can't speak about the 340, I have a 360 with the 8.1's and I will tell you, she will get up and go for such a big girl. I can only imagine 8.1's in a 340, I bet she would be just perfect. As the previous posters stated, do your research. The additional advice I will give is when you go to sell this boat in the future, the next potential buyer will ask the same question. The only negative would be room in the ER.

my dockmate has the 8.1's in his 2008 340....it runs like a scared deer ....45 mph he touts....more power is never overkill in my opinion.....good luck....great boat

We just got a 340 with 8.1s, v-drives and 4-blade props and love it. Cruises easily on plane at 3200 RPM burning 28GPH.

8.1s if you have that option. You will not regret it.

We have 8.1's in our 360 and she moves really well for such a big girl. I'm sure you would be impressed, although they are more rare than you'd think.

Could use a little help and or advise.

I just had my impellers changed on my 2007 340 SD, 8.1 HO's (425 hrs), by a certified Mercruiser dealer. After completion there was no water running through either side. After attempting several solutions They removed them for inspection. They told me, do to cavitation on the plates, (which appeared minor even to them), that they could not get the impellers to be air tight and therefore would have to also replace the raw water pumps. Anyone with any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

I had decided that I wanted a 340 - 04-07 years.

Looked at several, spent time at the helm on a boat with 6.2's, then the next day on one with 8.1's.

I felt there was noticeable difference. Have never regretted going with the 8.1's.

As you peruse this website you will find multiple discussions on this topic. Given that there seems to be a clear ( would guess greater than 90%) preference for 8.1's - the resell value alone would be worth narrowing your choice.
