So, has anyone ever installed a double DIN stereo in their boat? My boat has a Sony stereo and disc changer currently installed. I really have no use for a disc changer and was thinking of pulling both and installing a double DIN stereo in their place. The boat is new to me so I haven't traced everything out yet, but it has 4 - 5 1/4 or 6 inch speakers in the cabin and 4 of the same in the seating area around the cockpit. There is a fader in the dash that fades the 2 in the cockpit from the 2 in the rear seating area. I also have 1 - 10" IB sub. So, I am sure I have an amp somewhere, but haven't located it yet. Any ideas? Also, I am curious how it would be wired where the cabin music remains at a lower volume than the speakers up top? With a total of 9 speakers running I assume there may be a 5 channel amp and the receiver runs the other 4 speakers. I am looking at installing some Polk Audio sub/subs and building a box/boxes. They require smaller air space. Anyone have any suggestions?

Check the starboard side hanging locker by the mid-cabin for the Amp.

Definitely aftermarket. Without more details about age of the boat it is hard to fully assist you with your question. Also, stock, these boats didn't come with 8 speakers, only 4. Please provide more information. I did a rather major overhaul of my sound system in the 330 I owned and it really Rocked! Hope I can help you....

Carpedmman, It is a 1996 330. It is aftermarket stuff. The receiver is a Sony and the changer a Sony Xplod. The speakers up top are Pioneer marine speakers. I'm not sure about the sub, but guessing a Pioneer as well. I'm definitely interested in any info you have around equipment locations and the install on your 330. Especially the sub and amp. The sub that is currently installed is in the kick panel of the cockpit and like I mentioned it is an infinite baffle design or at least I assume that I guess. I would much rather have an enclosure somewhere, but not sure where to put one. I did find the Polk subs that require a smaller air space (.88 cu. ft.) for 10's. Any help is appreciated.

your boat has a diferent design than mine but I run 2 Phoenix Gold 10" subs where my access to the fuel filler lines are. It is a 13" x 16" x 6" enclosure on port and stbd towards the back of the boat being pushed by a Lanzar 1100. I have 4 sets of polk db6501's in the cockpit and man they are loud and crystal clear. If you don't want to have to hide or concel a lot of wireing than I suggest the non component speakers. If you have not heard the new Polk speakers they are great. If you wanna spend some money Wet Sounds all the way. By far the best on the market. Downstairs I run 2 sets of the same above on a 4 ch amp and it all blends well with a selector switch for up and downstairs. Last of all I run the Alpine 123 with RF remote. Controls IPOD Pandora TV and Blueray and my surrond. Great head unit for the price. This was a 2 month project I did over the winter and sounds awesome. Replaced everything down to the stock speasker wire. All speakers are at a 4ohm load and do not even warm the 3 amps while being drivin. The key is big pwr wire and speaker wire and good tight connections.
