1990 3208/375 - new (Cat Reman) turbos over the winter. Previous to the replacement, I showed 7PSI of boost at 2,400 RPM cruise speed (18kts) and topped out at 2,850 RPM. Immediately after the replacement I can only get 2,200 RPM at 7PSI and I lost over 400RPM of top end. I've read that I should be able to get up to 21PSI but could never get above 15 with the old or the new turbos.

In addition, at 2,400 RPM (now showing 10PSI of boost) I'm getting a "high water temp" alarm on the SeaRay system panel (the boat shaped panel with indicators for various faults) but the water temps on the gauges and IR readings show normal temps. Also the oil pressure and pyrometer readings are normal.

My first reaction was that the aftercoolers were due for cleaning so I sent them out to be cleaned and tested at a reputable facility. Did not help one bit.

Any ideas? Things to try? Thanks!

You definately have something going on there. What is your air filter situation? I had the 435hp TA's and they were beasts. Only issues I had were fuel pump problems from as my mechanic said from "not pushing them" hard enough and long enough. Are you sure you are getting full travel on your linkage? What is the smoke situation at WOT?

Thanks for the reply! I have reusable filters which I cleaned along with the aftercooler maintenance. Both engines are behaving exactly the same so I wouldn’t think linkage would be the issue. My next test is to see what I get for RPM’s in neutral.

The exhaust smoke hasn’t changed. I would get a small cloud from both engines when spooling up the turbos but that didn’t change when the turbos were replaced.
