3116 won't turn over after batteries died

That sucks. Have you pulled the head off to see inside the cylinder? Maybe its "just" a new head and injectors and resetting the head?

Keep us posted on your progress.

Yes that very thought crossed my mind, as well a the 2 Cat mechanic i have helping me. Im thinking that this valve issue must have JUST happened when i went to start it since there was never any smoke, oil consumption, engine noise, or anything else to indicate there was a problem before i shut the engine down. Once we talk to insurance, we are going to remove the head and see if there's little to no damage to the piston and cylinder wall (hoping for the absolute BEST case scenario and luck). I don't hold out too much hope for that, but the head has to come off anyway so we'll know sooner than later. Keep your fingers and toes crossed with me lol!

If it happened after shut down during a restart, I would say you're chances are pretty good you won't need a full rebuild. Probably a rebuilt head and injectors would be my guess.

Very interested in any follow ups to this post, I'm in the process of diagnosing a very similar issue with my 3116. Replaced the starter already as I had to tap it with a hammer a few times to get it turn over. Putting fresh batteries in soon but now I'm concerned about damaging it if I try to turn it over.
