and went into the cover on the front of the engine. So, no cooling water.

Does anybody have a mechanic in the Washington DC/Woodbridge area?

Has this happened to anybody else? I am boatless until I can solve this one:smt089

Your problem is more than no cooling water.

The nut fell into the front accessory drive cover. It may be lodged there or it may work its way down into the oil pan. either way, having loose parts floating around in the engine is dangerous and can cause significant other damage.

Caterpillar has nation wide dealer covereage. You should be able to get help from their nearest dealer, and there is one other boat I know of that has experienced this problem, but the nut was easy to locate and retrieve because the owner heard the noise when the gear slipped loose and shut down his engine.

Thanks...in your experience, is this something insurance would cover (BOATUS)? Or is this a wear and tear thing that isn't normally covered in insurance (sounds like I might have significant damage as the cooling provided by the water pump ceased at about 2800 rpm's when the overheat alarm sounded...
