Perhaps a simple question, but looking for some advice.

Have owned my 440EB with Cat3116's for the last year and a half. I am planning a month and a half cruise in Cuba and then the Bahamas and on my massive to-do list, I am addressing an engine spare parts.

On my previous boat, I easily had 100lbs of spare parts onboard (impellors, fuel and oil filters, assorted hoses, etc..) and in 15+ years, rarely used them. Primarily with my cruising area of Florida and the Bahamas.

Now with the Cuba on the cruise plan, I want to make sure I'm "heavy" on parts just in case. 10 gallons of engine oil, 5 gallons of coolant, 8x fuel filters, 8x oil filters, etc..

Willing to spend $1K, just to have a good collection onboard, just in case.

So, other owners with 3116's and a longer operating history, what would you put onboard?

Also just replaced my dead Westerbeke 7kw with a Kohler 8kw.... So have added generator parts to my list.

There are some short, formed hoses on the 3116. Look between the seawater pump and the heat exchanger. I keep OEM ones on the boat for spares because getting a universal hose bent that tight would be very difficult.

Alternator and water pump belts - get OEM ones from Caterpillar. They outlast Dayco, Gates, etc. 3-4:1. I keep an extra set (4 belts) on the boat

Seawater hoses from the seacock to the strainer usually dry out and crack in 5-6 years. At least check and probably replace them before you depart.

I carry 2 spare impellers and one spare seawater pump when away from home.

Transmission fluid/oil

I don't know why you would need 8 oil filters.......that is enough for 2000 hours.

You will need more Racors than Cat engine mounted filters. You never know what quality of fuel you will be getting, so 2 cases of Racors and 12 Cat fuel filters.

5 gal of diesel fuel in a fuel container. You cannot prime the Racors using the engine mounted priming pump.

Fuel additives for lubricity, biocide, etc.

Extra thermostats and thermostat gaskets

10 gal of oil won't do an oil change. Carry at least enough to do an oil change (6.5 gal per engine + enough oil for the generator to change its oil every 100 hours.)

Extra fuel supply solenoid and an extra relay.

Spare props/shafts.
