Cat 3116
I had a Cat mechanic out last week to do a PM and he told me I had 3116 disease. Diesel fuel in the coolant. He said it was a common malady for 3116 and older 3126 and not a real problem yet; but the fuel will cause the rubber hoses to deteriorate quicker.
The cause he said was the brass sleeves that surround the injectors, and the treatment was to pull all the injectors and replace all the sleeves, re-rack, and flush the cooling system (estimated 3 + day job).
The engines have 1,400 hrs and I had the coolers cleaned and flushed about 200 hrs ago (3 months).
Anyone with any experience or suggestions?

Reseating the injectors is a pretty common service need for Cat unit injectors. Its isn't just older 3116/3126 engines either. It isn't terminal or particularly difficult but does require the correct tools and experience.

His time estimate is high and probably means how long you will be down. I had the injectors checked and reseated on one engine a year ago and it took 7 billable hours, but I'm in Florida where we have lots of Cat engines and very experienced diesel technicians.
