How much should a yard charge to change the oil in my 310. I have the twin Merc 350HP gas engines.

I would expect to pay an hour labor per engine plus materials. That is why I do it myself. One oil changes pays for a quality pump. Plus you really need to change the transmissions at the same interval on our boats. Then when you add a generator, you can easily be at 3 to 5 hours labor.

My service dept gets 3 hrs of labor ($90 per hour) for each engine genny + retail filters, oil, etc.

It takes about 15-30 minutes per engine/genny with your own pump...

I was charged $850 for an oil change - I feel this is a rip off. I need to start doing it myself I guess.

For just an oil change that does sound excessive. What else did they do for that $$$?

I would agree if it was just an oil change. The oil and filters are about $40 for each engine and less than $20 for the Genny. Just did mine. Taking my time I got it done in a little over an hour. Most of the time was letting the remote oil filters sit slightly loosened for 20 min or so to let the oil drain out of them.

That Jabsco Oil pump will save you thousands.

The Jabsco is a nice setup.

Twin 8.1's--9 qts of oil each plus oil filters. I just looked at my last 2 yrs of oil changes from our winter storage marina. 2yrs ago it was $247 last year it was $252.
Why would anyone change his transmission oil yearly??

In the manuals for my boat is says to change it annually or 100 hours. Also, it said to change after the first 25 hours. Some of the diesel boats have a 3 year 300 hour interval.

Are there different models or pretty standard ?

Pretty Standard models. I have had mine for 8 years, I always run a little oil into the hose to help prime the pump when it has been sitting for a year. Seems to work well.
