I recently purchased a 93 310 SS with twin 454s. It sounds good when you start it but gets quite when the mufflers fill. Can the mufflers be eliminated or are there baffles inside that can be removed?

For those of us that like our peace and quiet please leave it as is. The only way to change it would be to install a dry thru hull exhaust system. Several boat bucks.

To get some ideas, go to Corsa's marine website and look at their products - see if there's something there that interests you that can be adapted to your setup. I'm thinking the most straight forward way might be to eliminate the big fiberglass mufflers and go with something inline. You could do a switchable system, as well... quiet when you need it to be and loud when you want it to be.

Does the current setup have the exhaust exiting through formed, fiberglass exhausts built into the hull corners?

You may have room to fill those holes and push the exhaust straight out through the transom (w/silencers, etc), directly behind the risers/elbows (depends on a few factors). I haven't looked close enough at your existing system - although I just worked on a SR that had that a week ago - to see how easy/hard it would be to continue using the existing exhaust holes.

Another possibility may be a side exit exhaust.

I was hoping to replace the muffler and just go direct to the existing outlet.

show us some pics of the boat - that is an awesome sea ray

For sure. That's always been on of my favorites. Congrats!

My pier is next to a restaurant with guest dockage. I often wonder if guys with loud boats know what's said about them while no-one can hear a damn thing over their exhaust. Some of my dockmates are mean. (and funny)

I just want a little more sound. It will still be way quieter than the Baja it replaced.

It sounds plausible. I've never personally seen a silencer in a vertical position, but if that can be done (I can't really think of why it can't?), it seems like that and some piping/rubber boots should allow you to do that. Note that when I say "silencer", it's not going to as quiet as it is now. Although they probably have different "levels", Corsa's silencers just keep it from being an obnoxious noise. But it will still have that REALLY nice rumble you're after.
