300 Sundancer questions.

Hi I have a 2005 300 with Kolher generator on the starboard side and 4 batterys on the port side. My question is with even fuel tanks and empty holding tank the boat sits down by about 30 mm on the port side at rest. I am wondering what is under the port fuel tank, is it a ballast or foam filled tank, could it have water in it or is it just the weight of the batterys on that side. Any help would be appreciated

Ironically I used to own an Australian Mini and it sat low on the Stbd side

Brushing up on my metric ...... 30mm is about one foot, right?

If anything it seems like the starboard side would be heavier. I have the 5kw Kohler too and it must weigh more than the 4 batteries and charger. Everything else should balance out, like water heater vs holding tank/macerator etc.

You said all the tanks are empty but maybe they are not?

Yes 30mm is 1 1/4 . My fuel tanks are almost full, water tank half full and holding/maserator tank empty. Thats why im thinking the tank under the fuel/holding tank may have water in it.

Anyone experience any moisture issues with their 300? Transom, Stringers or Osmosis? My previous boat was a 1990 Wellcraft Gran Sport that my father bought new and I inherited. I loved that boat but it had blister issues I had repaired and insanely bad stringer rot..why I ended up parting ways with it. The 300 I have an accepted offer on pending survey and sea trial is a 92. Just wondering if specifically that year or years have known issues to be looked for? This one has seen only freshwater lake use and was kept on a trailer by the previous owner so hoping it should be good.
Thanks

Get a good professional server and he should check all parts of the boat for high moisture; hull, decks, bilges, stringers & transom. Look for signs of rain leaks or softness around the hatches and port holes.

Yes I had issues but it is not specific to the model as far as I know, any boat can have issues as you saw with your dad's boat. It depends on the design but also the location, weather, previous owners maintenance, etc.

I have a 1994 so that was a fairly large change in the cockpit/helm to more fiberglass and less "cabinetry". Yet I still had issues from rain water leakage in the mid section that previous owners ignored.

Absolutely I will have a comprehensive survey. I have a guy with tons of experience and legitimate credentials hired to do the job when the weather warms up here in Canada. Those early 90’s Wellcraft had lots of problems. Was just wondering if sea Ray had a time period to stay away from or scrutinize more closely.
Thanks

Another change is I have port holes
I think you still have the long sliding windows?
On any boat those had more leak issues
The drains clog and water creeps under and over the slide tracks

Does anyone have this switch and know what it does? The owners manual is showing something else in its place?

Fellow 300-ers, where do you stand in the bilge? Right on the stringers? It's a bit of a balancing act. It reminds me of walking on joists in the attic, afraid I'm gonna miss and go right through the ceiling.

Also, do you step right down on the batteries?

Yes you can step down on batteries especially if the covers are on the pegs. Seen mechanics do a million times and won't hurt them

I am looking to order a replacement arm and assembly for the windless on my 2002 300. This is the only picture I have and the boat is a few hours away, does anyone have an idea as to the make of the windless Sea Ray used on the 2002?

That is a progress 1 windlass and you can order a new "pressure finger" from a friend who made up a bunch of them and put together a kit. Mike Dixon 770-789-7411 and dixonprecision@gmail.com
