300 Sundancer questions.

@JimFromMD I would take out the 4 screws that hold in the 12v breaker panel, pull out the panel and see if you can see anything going on back there

But it's also on the back of the door latch?

Anyone ever seen anything like this? I have a yellow fluid that is leaking out around the battery / breaker switch panel. It seems corrosive as it's rusting the back of the battery compartment latch and also the stainless screws in the compartment in the panel. I've cleaned it up several times, thinking that I had a leak in the arch, but have sealed everything up there. I've checked the batteries which are below this area, but they look ok and are sealed AGM batteries. The only other thing nearby is the cockpit fridge, which does apparently have a few ounces of yellowish refrigerant, but in talking with a tech, the fridge wouldn't get cool if it was leaking.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. It seems to only show up after we've used the boat for the weekend and come back and turn everything off. Then it's there the next time. It DID NOT show up the last two times we were on the boat and had strong rain. The yellowish fluid does not dry up, and seems slightly oily so I'm leaning toward the fridge... Just cannot figure out how it would be getting over to that area since there is a panel in-between. Perhaps a tiny pin-hole leak in the coil which is putting out a tiny but forceful stream of the fluid? Still it didnt show up while the fridge was on, just once we left and it was powered off/warm.

Help! and Thanks.View attachment 131507View attachment 131508
If it is refrigerant dye, it will glow with a black light.

Yes... so I'm wondering if it's getting vaporized in the rising heat from the motors under the floor there and finding its way over to "condense" on stuff. That's the only thing I can figure out. That was my original thought regarding batteries and perhaps battery vapors, corrosive.... but still doesnt make sense since the batteries looked fine from the outside (no bulging, sealed AGM, no corroded terminals etc). Definitely will have to explore behind that panel tonight.

Yep we are thinking the same way on seeing what's behind door number 1.

JimfromMD, I hate to think this but behind that panel and above is your marine sanitation hose for the pump out deck fill, right...

Yikes -- was just thinking that too -- on this boat the holding tank is on that side but farther to the back. But the vent is near there

@Cocktail Time and @Phil S -- Awww sheet. As mentioned the pump out deck plate is all the way on the stern facing aft. The vacuum tank and storage tank is aft on that side. Believe the vent has to be further back toward the port stern too but will look. Right below this switch compartment on that "ledge" is the fuel tank. I didnt see anything suspicious on the top of the tank, or around the water manifold and fittings right below /inboard of the tank. The main poo-transport line from the head itself must go outward of the gas tank by the hull.

I haven't smelled any toilet smells. I did just start using Carter's poopy powder this season however.. which is different. Prior to that I used the standard tank pellets... AND we have been pumping out every time we return from a trip just before docking and leaving the boat... and this "stuff" shows up after those times. Maybe there is something to this craptastic theory!

Wonder if poopy powder contents are corrosive. Hmmm indeed.

I would venture to guess the fridge leak. A pin hole can seal with expansion from heat. Then open once cooler. And it was said "oily", so that would also say fridge coolant. The color can be the coolant with dust, dirt or just about anything making that color. Or just the coolant.

I would think an unplug and remove all power and a good cleaning of the electrical panel should be a very close second on the list. Dont think I would want premature corrosion anywhere in the panel.

Just my $.02.

Absolutely agree on cleaning the panel! That could be an expensive issue if it gets really out of control

You wouldnt think poopy juice would be Oily. Unless you eat a lot of Taco Bell out on the boat.

Re: rod holders

John, Iam thinking about setting up for some fishing. Thanks for the rod holder info. What do you do about the aft bench seat while fishing? Do you remove it? If so is it difficult? I see the bench legs are on hinges do you remove them?
Thanks.
Hammered.

I bought stainless Perko. Cost = about $70 each. They are angled at about 60 degrees, sit flush, and have rubber weather caps. A year ago, I bought some stainless West Marine rail mounted rod holders (half the price of Perko) for my Whaler, and they discolored in 2 months. Back they went, and I replaced them with Perko. The old addage, "You really do get what you pay for!"

Installation was pretty straight forward. Removed the rear bench, accessed the underside of the gunwales through the access panels, held the rod holder up unside to check for clearances (plenty), as if I recall, the only thing in there is the fuel filler hose. Measured and transferred the measurements to the top of the gunwales. Then I cut the clear plastic front panel from the Perko package, which is designed to be used as a guide for drilling at the proper angle. Then sealed the self tappers with 4200. Note: the rod holders don't come with SS screws, you'll have to purchase them seperately. Both done in 1 1/2 hours. Good luck...

Was exploring on the new to me 2004 300DA we purchased a few months back. Still learning what everything is and where everything is. Anyway, two questions.

1) still haven’t found a gauge or panel to indicate when the black water tank needs to be pumped out. Thought from reading it was somewhere in the head but I’m yet to find it

2) both in the head and in the galley there is a rocker switch with the picture of a fan. Is there an exhaust fan somewhere on the boat?

Thanks in advance for any helps/tips or just steering me in the right direction

The waste tank level indicator is located on your breaker panel. And to aloe the blower fans to work in the bath or kitchenette you need to flip the power vent button on in your breaker panel. Then those switches will work.

I’ll get back to my boat this week but I know my panel looks different. The gauge you have on yours isn’t on mine. There is a gauge off to the upper left of that cabinet, but I could swear it says water level not waste level.

In any event, thanks for the quick reply and I will take a pic of my panel and send it as soon as I can.
