Just moved up from a 290 to a 2000 340 DA. Picked it up this weekend. I have a few questions.
1. where does the cockpit wet bar sink drain to>>>it is running slow there is no thru hull for it. does it tie into the head vanity???
2. the oil pressure gauge for the starboard engine worked fine when i picked up the boat however yesterday when i started the engine the gauge went below zero.....is this a gauge issue or a sending unit issue??
3. and finally the boat has a westerbeke gas gen-set. i believe 5kv??? the gen-set started and ran great when i picked up the boat. however yesterday, it started right up but remained at full throttle without any load....it never idled down..

Any help or advise...thanks guys in advance

I have a 2002 340, which is essentially the same boat, so I may be able to help. There may be subtle differences between the two, so keep that in mind.

1 - My wet bar does drain overboard, on the port side, through a thru hull fitting. It's possible mine is different, but I bet you do have a thru hull fitting.

2 - I would bet that you have a loose connection on the back of the gauge. Remove the phillips head screws that secure the dash panel, flip it down, and check all the connections on the back of the gauges. It would be a good idea to simply tighten all of them...

3 - The generator is supposed to run at a constant RPM - 1800, to be exact. The throttle will open, under load, to maintain the 1800 RPM. It never should idle down.....

Dale,

thank you so much for the reply..... your blog is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Great work great job!!!!!! i'm going to try to get to the boat today, and check the gauge......as for the generator....1800 constant...okay sounds like this thing is turning faster...new boat maybe its just me.....thank you again

Scott, There are 2 different 4.5 westebeke Gennys 4.5BCGTC which runs at 3600 rpm and a 4.5BCGB which runs at 1800RPM .Me and a friend have same year boats 2000 340 sundancers He has the 1800 rpm generator and mine the 3600 rpm . Check the out put it should be around 120v at 60 cycles . I never had a generator on a boat before so mine sounded fine, My buddy gets same boat and his sounds slow and quiet. I thought there was something wrong with mine but after i started looking into it I relized the 2 different gennys you can download all the manuals on westerbekes website. My cockpit sink goes over the side and it drains slow its a small diameter hose. Try taking the stereo speaker out and you can see around under there. You can shake hose while the sink is running maybe there is something stuck in there. Rich

Rich,

thank you.....genny runs at 3600 with no idle down....this is a new concept for me>>>>im used to the welding machines that idle down until load is applied.....again thanks to both rich and dale
