290 sundancers 1994-midyear 97 "We need a thread"

THE LED Level Indicator only comes on after the tank is 1/2 full if memory serves. It has 1/2, 3/4, and FULL indicators

Trying to figure out my toilet. I have the electric fluch with the key switch next to it. It has a led that reads power when the key is on. Should it show a level on that led also? Sometimes the water level wont go down, not sure why? I'm asuming that the macerator should turn on when you turn the key to start but mine does nothng. Any info on this would help.

Not sure if you aware or not, but mine you need to hold the key turned over. First position shows level second position pumps out. Short of that can you hear anything running?

Thanks for all the help with my toilet. I figured out the problem with the water level, I was talking about the bowl water, sorry. Someone put a wet wipe in the bowl and it got stuck in the trap, I removed it and all good there. I havent had a chance to look into the pump yet. I was just asuming that I had macerator because of the key switch. I will look into it and reply back. I dont here anything running when I turn the key to start position. The boat came from lake of the ozarks, I have heard that they water patrol is very strict about macerators in that lake so most people disconnect them. I just need to do some investigating.

Another question for you guys...why does my boat sit unlevel? The port side is lower in the water than starboard.

That is a good question, as my 94 does the exact same thing. I have read this is common but I do not believe I have ever read exactly why this happens.

Yup, they all list slightly to port. It gets worse if your waste tank is full.

Some people have put some weight under the dinette to level it out but since all the cockpit seating is to stbd, it will usually level out on its own with people on board

Yes, same here. I have the single engine with a 4kw Kohler on the starboard side and someone added sand bags in front of the genset. I thought about removing them and adding a couple of golf cart batteries and an inverter but it looks like a major job to unhook everything and slide the genset back to gain access.

We took a trip up river and I wanted to post my fuel milage for you all. I have a 290 with single 454 bravo 3 set up. We traveled about 110 miles up river with a 3-4 mph current. I ran with trim tabs up outdrive trimmed up slightly and 3500 rpm. I got 1.7 mpg going up river and 2.1 down river. At 3500 rpm my speedometer on the boat read 28mph, gps read 25mph going up river and 31mph going down river. Very pleased with the results! better than I expected.

So now im ready to upgrade my stereo system. Does anyone know how the aft berth ceiling comes apart? I think this is how I will have to run the wire for my helm mounted wired remote.

Most of our vintage 290's that I've seen came with a clarion stereo that had a remote on the dash. If yours has one you could just use the old cable to pull the new cable through.

On mine, the PO replaced the stereo with a wireless controlled remote unit but the cable is still there under the dash. I will try to look this weekend to see where it goes but I'm pretty sure it isn't through the cabin/berth ceiling.

I believe it goes from the stereo along the port side into the bilge then over to underneath the helm & up, but I cant say for sure.

Yes mine still has the original clarion tape deck with the wired remote on the dash. I think you are right about it going through the bilge then up to the helm, but im not sure yet either. I hope I can pull the new wire in with the old one, but it may be wire tied to everything?? What did the PO do with the old remote housing? I thought about going with a wireless unit but didnt know what to do with the old remote housing?

Hadn't thought about the remote cable being tied in a wire bundle, so you are correct that could be a problem.

The original remote housing was still on my dash when I got the boat. I just removed it an covered the round hole with a blank 4x4 piece of woodgrain dash panel material from Flounder Pounder for like $10.

I think I can run the wire through the bilge and up the port side. The wood grain dash part sounds like a nice option. I have a couple of fall projects to complete, looks like I just found another last weekend...the anchor/bow pulpit has some stress cracks. It seems that the anchor rope should have a guide loop on the bracket to keep it from rubbing on the under side of the pulpit when it is in use, hooked? But I think the cracks are from the anchor bouncing against the pulpit when it is tied to it while cruising?? Does anyone know if this is a common thing on these boats? And how to repair or strengthen the pulpit? It just seems week up there on mine. There is on other 290 dancer in my harbor, 1993 I think, it has the same stress cracks as mine if not worse.

Sorry I keep changing the topic here. I'm just trying to figure this boat out. And get it up to my liking. I appreciate all the help!!

Hello all, this is my first post on CSR and just wanted to say that many of the things I have looked through on this forum have been helpful, especially the carpet link. last year I bought my first boat from a friend who had no business owning one and took it off his hands at a great price knowing what I was getting into. Thought that I would get something older and learn on my first boat without putting myself into a deep hole. In the process now of continuing to upgrade/fix the older out of style stuff and saw a thread on here about someone installing a flat panel in their 1996, but I could not see the pics. Could someone tell me the size and what they did to add a TV (type of TV) and how it was mounted? Many thanks.

Travis

Welcome Travis...I don't have any info for you unfortunately on a TV, but always nice to see more involvement in this thread.

Thanks GM, I appreciate the welcome. I am interested in doing more upgrades to mine this year, but of course not too much at once. I was looking into getting a generator since this one did not come with that option (had I only known how great they were before), and I was looking at the Honda 2K for putting it on the back of the boat for whenever I need it such as overnight. Does anyone have any experience with any nice Gens that they have used that did not come with the boat?

Travis

Travis, in my opinion the generator is really only necessary if your boat has AC and you need to run the AC while out on the water ...that is basically the only time I use mine.

On a side note I would never bring up the idea of using a portable generator on your boat again. If you want to know why, just do a search for "portable generator" here and you will understand. Just walk away...
