280SS/290SS Thread

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm 6' and wife is 5'9", normal-sized. We wouldn't be doing too many overnighters; good to know it works well for naps and crashing.

This boat comes with the massive sun pad- I much prefer the expanded cockpit with U-shaped couch. Would welcome opinions on what is the best seating plan (there were 3 offered).

Other than that, boat seems to be in good condition with some desirable options. Fairly tempting . . .

I like the u-shaped seating. It’s more social than the bench. The small table/post adds a place for drinks without getting in the way. Each end of the U offers handy storage - perfect for rags, spare fluid bottles, flushing muffs, tools etc.

We have an ‘04 290 SS all black Hull with the u shape seating and I love it. You can get a good size group of people on it for a cruise. Tons of deck space. I’m 5’11” 250 and my GF is 5’6” 125 and we overnight on it regularly. It’s not the most comfortable but it works. There’s a curved cushion we remove. If you lay at an angle I stretch out.

We may be looking to sell it to go up to a bigger cruiser again if interested. I would guess it’s one of the best looking and cared for 290ss out there. Let me know if you want some pics. It’s got a killer stereo system. Windlass. Twin 350s. Drives look like new.

Well here goes my first post... Wish Me LUCK!!

I just picked up a 2007 290 SLX with the twin 350 Mag MPI BIII drives and it has the U-Shape seating which sold me on the boat! I just love the open space but hate the "plastic" look of the dash and analog instrumentation with the cheesy add-on Garmin GPS behind the steering wheel. Seems like everything at the helm was a second-thought design.

Coming from a background of 80+ mph 35' CC Donzi ZFX, a 120+mph Skater and an Eliminator built for racing... 50+mph just isn't going to keep up with my friends at the poker runs. BUT... again, I love the layout of this boat and the overnight cabin when it is deemed necessary not to drive home. I am only 5'9" and the GF is 5'5" so we are GTG!!

I sent a text to Ron Hill to look into a set of his 4x4 props for the B3s and wondering if lightening this hull with a pair of LSX motors would not pay dividends in performance results... yet I see that everyone sees much the same performance with higher loads, so I am wondering if it is simply a hull design issue or just a lack of power altogether.

Thoughts?

Looking to purchase a 290SS Years 2005-2009.
Moved to the lake and sold our Regal Mid-Cabin Cruiser. Wanting more of a day boat.
Anyone looking to sell theirs?

Just purchased a 2005 290SS in great shape. During the survey, it was determined that it does NOT have the Windlass option (so odd for a boat this size). Contacted Sea Ray to ask too, but wanted to put this out on the forum - can a windlass be installed? The surveyor stated that it looked like everything was there to bolt on and wire. There are switches on the helm already - any feedback is hugely appreciated. Thanks.
