280DA Automatic Engine Hatch Lift??

Yeah, looks scared and lonely...like it could use a twin.

That's funny -- it does look lonely. But it sure is nice to get my whole body down there without contorting myself unnaturally. I can reach places that you guys have probably never even seen without the use of mirrors.

Good thread and I, too, am sick of sumo squatting to get that hatch open on my 2002 280DA. Can anybody give me a lead as to where to buy the electric actuators or what to look for or avoid?

Tom,

Hi Tom,

Good to see you are still using the 280, hope all has been going well for you.

I used to use the loop from an old dock line with a knot o the end to make that easier. I thought I left that on the boat when you bought it

There is a switch set up on the port side helm EIM pad for a hatch lift as well as circuit pin outs on the aft EIM as I recall. I looked at doing this myself, but never got around to it. If you do this one thing you will need to do is make it so the hatch can be lifted off of the actuator. When these are installed as OEM there is a port cut in the deck to allow access underneath to allow the actuator to be disconnected from the hatch. This allows the hatch to be lifted (by four or five guys) in the event the actuator or battery fails.
