270 Sundeck Thread - Questions & Answers

So I made some progress on my system. I replaced the 4 stock speakers with 6.5" Infinity's, swapped out the Rockford Fosgate receiver with a Kenwood receiver( the RF was not capatible with iPhones), added a Wet Sounds amp and installed a 10" Infinity sub under the Captains seat. Sounds great. Still have to add the tower speakers that I have already purchased
How did you get a 10” under the seat? How did you get wire to it?

I took the seat completely off and used a jigsaw to cut the hole. On my boat, there was plenty of room to get a 10” in, probably enough for a 12”. And while I had the hole open I used a fish tape to get to the far starboard side wall and get in behind the dash. While I had this hole open, I also used it to get the #4 copper from the battery to the new amp mounted behind the dash.

Where do you run the new larger wires for a 6 channel amp from vanity to port side batteries in stern? Is there access in the port gunnel or under the floor? What is the best route?

Hi everybody! I just bought a 2004 Sundeck 270 and have a question about the "Waste discharge seacock"

It has a sanipottie head in it with a pump out port on the port side but there looks to be a small tank thats labeled with this in the ski storage area. Can someone identify what the purpose of this is? I've never had a boat with this before.

Thanks!

Just picked up what is my 3rd 270 SunDeck. I just can't seem to stay away from these boats. It's an 05, 496 MAG w/328 hrs.

Replacing the Clarion XMD3 headunit with a Fusion RA70. The location of the amp on the starboard side in front of the steering wheel is insane. Talk about a hard place to get access!! I'm sure the stock 6.5" speakers will get replaced soon and hopefully the Fusion is powerful enough for the speakers otherwise I will add a small amp. Already has the factory sub and Clarion Marine amp running the sub and rear speakers.

From the sounds and feel at idle the gimbal bearing needs replaced and while the outdrive is off I'll have them check out everything else too.

After many hours troubleshooting the stereo it was the amp which was the issue. Decided to keep the Clarion headunit because of the 2 wired remotes do work perfectly. Not sure if the Fusion would have provided better sound but I have to be realistic, its a boat, with a loud 496 engine, usually filled with people and will replace the 6 stock 6/5" with Kicker speakers tomorrow. I'm not looking to be THAT boat with the obnoxious stereo blasting.

Put in an Alpine 4 channel amp running in the same configuration, front speakers powered by headunit, rears and sub powered by the amp.

Let’s u know how it comes out

Never really measured it because I haven't put much thought into adding one, but it might fit under the sink. If I were to guess, it would be a royal SOB to add. I added pullout drawers into that space where the cooler normally goes. Fridge was never a factory option because shore power was never an option. I have put in shore power along with a charger/inverter but left it at that.
Hey, TDGard, do you have any pictures of the drawers you put in the cooler space? I'm thinking about doing the same thing, and would love to see your design. Thanks!

Between the 6 new speakers and new working amp it sounded fantastic. Huge improvement over the stock speakers.

Side note- Sold the 270 SunDeck after 5 weeks of ownership. When wife says she wants a bigger boat you DO NOT question her and immediate sell your current boat.

Hi everyone I have a new to me 2004 270 Sundeck, the main ski locker has no drain to the bilge just a pump. With your batteries off it will fill with rain water, I don’t see the purpose of this setup. Is this normal?

If that's how your boat is setup, then it should be an automatic pump that is wired direct to the batteries, independent of the switch. Are you saying that the pump is DEFINITELY controlled by the battery switches or are you just guessing? There's always the possibility of the "previous owner" factor...

Thanks for the reply, It came (modified) with a rule aerator pump with alligator clamps in there LOL. I’ll be replacing it with an automatic pump wired directly to the battery for now. I believe the wire is there for it. I would like to cut in a drain to the bilge in the future, I’ll have to pop the hatch to the fuel tank and see if I have any space between the tank for that.

Trying to see if anyone has compared the 300 to the 350 offered on the 270sdx. Is it worth the money to upgrade for 50hp? I just ordered a sdx and have about a week to make up my mind on the engine. Thanks

We have the 350 on the 290. It's good for about 40 to 43 mph. Of course, heavier boat. But, I'd pay the extra. Nobody ever complained about too much HP. OTOH, if you step up to the 8L motor, it's going to use a lot more fuel.

FYI, I don't think there is much difference in fuel usage between 300 and 350. The 300 may use more because you are pushing it harder.

I think I read the 350 might use less fuel unless hammering it down

Hey guys, long time lurker first time poster. I have a 270 SD, 2005. Has anyone put a pad or cushion on top of the low transom? Where did you source it? And, how do you look up the Sea Ray color schema so I don't mismatch or clash with the rest of the vinyl?

We basically end up spending hours sitting backward on the transom watching the kids swim. My bum would thank me for something comfortable to sit on. I was thinking we could stick something on or, use the existing cover snaps.

Thanks in advance... Happy 4th guys. David.

Are you asking about a pad on the swim platform? I'd think you could have something made, and could have snaps added.

Steve - not on the swim platform... but on what is basically the back of the rear chair.
