How much you wanting to spend?

HI Everyone, Just purchased a 2006 270 Sundeck. Got a good deal I think?

Engine is a 383 stroker. Boat runs great but definitely needs work cosmetically. Needs work on a few areas but hull and mechanically she seems good. Its my first boat and I'm not sure if flipping or keeping it. Right now I'm leaning towards keeping as its a great boat. I want to do as much of the work myself DIY if possible and save money where possible. Would like some tips and ticks and general Advice for the following areas:
  • Has mildew mold in both cubbys and mildew and mold stains on captains chairs. What products are you using? Head CLR and Mrmagic scrubbers seem to do the trick (Youtube) any actual experience?
  • Some gauges work some don't. Would like to get all those sorted out. Is it possible to take apart and fix? How much of a headache? or just Gaugesavers option?
  • Dash Cover around the gauges looks rough. Better to replace/refurbish/clean?
  • Didn't come with a Depth Gauge/Sonar/Fishfinder/Nav system. I live and Boat in Clearwater/St Pete/Tampa, FL Area. How essential is this?
  • Few Latches are broken. The nose Anchor/Front Ladder latch, Both for and aft Floor storage Latches. Best place to buy?
  • Bimini Frame is there and the canvas is but its rough. Canvas Tunnels, where the bimini pole thread through are all torn. What are my options here? Replacement canvas seems to be in the $500 - $900 range. Repair is probably the cheapest option, any idea of costs and where to get it sewn together properly? I guess buying a used it also a possibility? any ideas?
  • Bimini Frame is missing a bunch of pins. Its the Ball and Socket type Bimini top. Found Pins on Amazon. Any other better or cheaper options?
  • Fore and aft covers are there but rough. They missing the backloops on the bow by the tramson?
  • On the Upholstery is is better to let a professional detail the inside and deal with all the mold mildew? Roughly what are the costs? or put in the work and save a ton?
  • Boat hull is in great shape but needs sprucing up. Decals and paint are sunfaded. Would a buff and wax do the trick to bring it back to life? I don't have much of the equipment but is it worth it to do it myself over getting someone to professionally do it?
  • Has anyone come across decent used deals on Bimini, for and Aft covers?
Can get pics for all of the above and will post shortly.
Any help advice feedback would be very appreciated.

Best,

Dane

Out of curiosity, can those with a 2003 - 2007 270 SUNDECK with the 6.2L or a 383 Stroker post their WOT top speed?
I can only get to 41 - 42MPH max under ideal conditions @ just over 5000RPMs.

I have the Mercruiser remanufactured 383 in my 2003 270SD and I run at 47 mph and 4800 RPM with my new Hill Marine B3 four blade polished SS 20" pitch props. With OEM props I was at 43 mph and 4400 RPM. No paint on the bottom as it is a trailered boat.

Hello from Florida, over the winter I added a swim platform, a freeride tower and a new 383 stoker. List of honeydews, wire new polk cans, install 2 amp and 12' sub, install opt7 led strips, install lowrance hds 7 gen 3 and vhf. I was reading about making bow filler boards and having cushions made but I'm on the fence because I'm not sure they would get used. How often do you guys use them?

Is it possible to share the cost of the labour to install that swim platform? Thanks.

I removed all the panels in the cabin behind the dash. It is easily to get to then. I clipped and capped the power wires and pulled the fuse. I left the rca cable and such there. I did tap into the rear speakers there. Thinking about it now I may rewire from the new amp to the rear speakers. after running rgb to each speaker for the leds I really don't want to rewire anything else. I'm installing both new amps in the head vanity.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk

Sounds great. Do you have a picture of how you mounted the amps inside the head vanity? I'm aiming to do a similar setup. Thanks.

Another spot you may consider is behind the hinged backrest. Easy run from vanity and much easier to wire.

Yeah thanks, it might be easier but I'm afraid of water getting in there as I trailer my boat but wash it down heavily after each use and then it sits outside to dry for a couple days before the covers go on when not in use. I wipe out the head area by hand only.

Thought it would be beneficial to start this thread for owners and/or operators of 270 Sundecks. I believe the 270 Sundeck was first introduced in 2003 with production continuing through year 2007. There were a few enhancements and refinements made to this model over the years. I would expect there to be strong following for this versatile yet sporty deck boat. If you have any questions that you would like answered, please post them here. We can all learn a thing or two from each other.

Proud new to me owner of a 2016 270 SD. Absolutely love the boat so far. Although I am absolutly let down with the quality of the sound system on this boat. I believe, because I havent seen it yet, that the Subwoofer is totally enclosed under the port seat. It sounds awful for the price you pay for these boats. Does it make any sense to have the sub totally enclosed? Options or fixes?

Are you sure your boat has the optional Premium Sound system? Otherwise, there would not be a subwoofer. I'm not aware of any subwoofer being inside a compartment. For most people, the stock system is just fine. Those that want more would order the premium sound system. Still, others, will design their own system and fit what they want.

Keep in mind, if the boat would have had an upgraded system, the price would have been higher. But when you're purchasing a used boat (which is totally fine, of course), you're stuck with what the person who bought it new wanted. But you can certainly change/upgrade the system if you want.

It sounds like you might be someone who really wants a killer system - your best bet is to do it yourself or take it to a local audio shop.

I don't think the boat has the "premium system" installed, I'm just going by what the owners manual show's a sub under the port seat

I have a 2003 270 sun deck w a new 383 and have been doing a lot trolling for stripers. Really don’t like putting all those hours on the new motor. Has anyone installed a Bow trolling motor on a 270 and if so what Motor did you choose and how do you like it. Please send a pic of the setup too

I've noticed water pooling on my cockpit canvas on my 2019 SDX 270 after it rains. I cannot seem to keep the canvas taught enough to flatten out the valleys where the water pools. I've tried really ratcheting the pulley tight and I've tried it a bit looser too. Still valleys. The two internal support posts work well for the bow canvas but I didn't receive any similar supports for the cockpit canvas. Are others having this issue? Am I doing something wrong? See photos. Any advice welcome, thanks!

Yes. I don’t have the arch and hang tie set up, but my water pooled in the same area. It can’t get up over the seat. I purchased a pole and placed it at the rear of the cockpit, the base inside the rear most grab rail near the floor, and added a stick on snap to the underside of the cover for the pole to snap in. Problem solved. You can also just use an expanding pole with the rubber bases on each end and put it there as well. Both work fine.

Hi, I have a 2003 270 Sundeck 8.2 496 and need to change the sea water pump....my mechanic says the engine needs to be pulled, which I have trouble believing. Has anyone had to change out their pump yet....how was it done.......
Just changed mine unbolted it replaced the rubber impellar bolted back on not easy to get to but by all means doable

Depends on what you paid for it!
Mold and Mildew: Star Brite Mold and mildew remover. Sold at WalMart or Amazon. This magic stuff removed almost ALL the stains on my 99 SD240 with little effort. Also they have a hull cleaner. Magic stuff again! Spray, scrub a little, rinse and wipe. Mold / water stains GONE. And get the deck cleaner.

Gauges: Check wiring first and test each gauge.
Dash Cover: Replace if you can't clean it
Boat hull: Polish with 3M Perfect-It then wax.
Bimini Top: Take it off and see what an upholstery shop can do. Mine just needed cleaned. I used a scrub brush over it.

I love finding boat like this. Mechanically sound and just need cleaned plus maintenance.
Mine looked like crap, now I get compliments and people are like it's a 99?!?!?

Problem solved, thanks for the tip! For reference here's the pole I bought: https://www.westmarine.com/buy/taylor-made--22-59-super-support-pole-3-piece--13809504

So I made some progress on my system. I replaced the 4 stock speakers with 6.5" Infinity's, swapped out the Rockford Fosgate receiver with a Kenwood receiver( the RF was not capatible with iPhones), added a Wet Sounds amp and installed a 10" Infinity sub under the Captains seat. Sounds great. Still have to add the tower speakers that I have already purchased
