270 Sundeck Thread - Questions & Answers

any tricks for the Bimini top? Very difficult to get up. The 1st time I put it up was this past Sunday, thought I was going to bend something. Hope it stretches some and gets easier to do. I don't keep it up when not out on the boat. Never had a boat that was this difficult to put up the Bimini.

New member here! We just bought a 2017 SDX 270 with about 120 hours on it. We are so excited to finally be a part of this family! Thanks to randmhall for referring me to this thread. I have a plethora of questions to start throwing y’all’s way and want to thank everyone in advance for the help and responses. For now, here is a pic of our ‘new to us’ boat!

Nice ride, welcome!

Very nice. Yours sits very high on the trailer.
Thank you very much. That trailer was what they had it sitting on at the marina where I bought it. They sold me a Magic Tilt with it and it doesn’t sit quite as high on the bunks!

Here are a few questions for the group. Pics are welcome. Thank you in advance.

1. Has anyone installed underwater lights on the SDX and if so where exactly did you locate them?
2. Has anyone run a switch line to the helm area from the battery area and if so how’d you run the wire?
3. Is anyone familiar with the wiring diagram for this boat and can tell me how to tie a wire into the accessory wire so when I turn the key to ‘accessory’ i can have power to this new lighting control I am installing?

The wiring diagram is in your owners manual. Sea Ray has downloadable manuals and spec sheets for most models at www.searay.com/us/en/owners.html. Yours should be at
https://owners-resources.searayweb.com/owners-manuals-files/2017_270SDX_OWNERS_MANUAL.pdf

Factory location of the lights is shown on page 8 of the owners manual. Triple check your engine compartment for obstructions, and measure 3 times before you drill for the wiring. Since boats are built by hand, cables are not always ran the exact same place.

Thank you Randmhall!!!

Noticed My engine hours seem high. Found out that when I leave the ignition switched to accessory so I can play the stereo my hours keep accumulating even though the engine is not running. Is there a way to see engine running hours and is there a way to play the stereo without the switch on accessory?
Thank you in advance.

I’m going to assume your newer boat has SmartCraft and that means you could invest in VesselView to get this info. You could also buy an engine scanner for your engine and it should give you this info and more. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of you specific boat can correct me if I’m wrong.

Hey,
I have a new to me 03 270 SD with a new 383 stroker. Bottom is newly painted, with 4 adult two cooler full fuel and water. With original B3 and 22p, my top speed is somewhere around 40, with a lot of trimming. I don't im seeing what people talking about the mid-40 speed, or even close to. And my top rpm is 4900-5000. What might be my problem?

You might try a 24p prop set.

Im currently running 3*3 bravo 3 prop. Is 4*3 at 22P better or 3*3 at 24? I usually have 4-6 people on the boat.
Is so, Im thinking to just replace the front prop to a 4 blade 22P, and leave that rear prop alone. Or a 4 blade 24 Im not sure.

They are probably a matched set and shouldn't be mixed up

The 3x3 and the 3x4 are different geometries and really can’t be mixed.

I have a good friend with a 2006 version of your boat, his is the same way. I guess the thinking is that the ski locker full of water won't sink you. His only works with the switch on the dash, he doesn't have a float switch. May=by it is so you can use it as a live well?

Nice SDX! I'd like to know what is the clearance height while sitting on the trailer with the bimini frame in the down. Trying to determine garage door height.
For what it is worth, the spec sheet shows the boat is 6'6" from keel to top of windshield. Mine is on an Aluminum trailer, which sits higher than a steel trailer with the bent crossmembers. Ground to top of windshield is 8'6" Ground to top of arch is 11". Due to the way my arch folds, it ends up just under 10' when folded down. Your milage may vary.
