270 Sundeck amp location

Hoping to get a bit of luck here as this boat does not seem too popular.


I have replaced all speakers with JL audio M650s and installed a 10" sub below the port seat. I have a JL Audio 700/5 amp to power it all. The factory configuration is the bow speakers are driven from the head unit (in the head) and the cockpit speakers are driven from an amp that is somewhere. I'd like to find the stock amp, replace it, & just have to run wires to the bow and power, but can't find the bastard. Not in the helm, not in the head, just an RCA that goes off into the abyss. Parts manual from Sea Ray does not show it.

Next option is a complete rewire.

They go in different places in different boats, so I wouldn't know without looking myself and would just be guessing. But, if you check your manual (or download it from Sea Ray's site) it might give the location. Look for the schematics/diagrams.

No, the parts manual won't - but the owner's manual very well might.

Are you positive there's an amp?

On the plus side, it can't be more than 27' away from you and it won't be in a wet place so you can eliminate the bilge and ski lockers. The two places you mentioned (hidden compartments?) or the cockpit sink area would be my first guesses.

I'll have to dig into the owners manual to check-quite honestly I find myself not paying attention to them because of the complete lack of technical detail that is in your automotive manual. I'm certain there is an amp-RCA cables feed the cockpit speakers. Under the sink is a good choice and I will check it out the next time I'm on the boat but we store everything under there and I think I would have noticed.

follow the pre amps out of the head unit. It cannot be far from there.
