getting lost engine com error.
Then I smelled burning. Found out this part has a short of some sort. Right behind the steering wheel. Apparently the harness hooks up to the junction box of smartcraft. Anyone know what this is? So I can order a new one. Are they know to short out?

Looks like a “clock spring”

It winds and unwinds as the steering wheel is turned, and allows the steering wheel buttons to function.

Thanks for all your replies. I unplugged it from the junction box and all beeping went away. Buttons on steering wheel won’t work but that’s not important. Incredible how something like this can disable a boat.
Will order the part. Thanks for the replies.

Rehashing an old thread but it’s taken me a while to find anything relevant to the issue and I’ve just gone through and this was it.

Difference being my one shorted that badly it took out the entire smartcraft system and knocked the boat out dead.

what a weak link!!

Unbelievable. Did you check your fuse. There is one dedicated for the DTS by the fluid for the trim. Should be labeled DTS. it’s been a while and anything I can remember I’ll be glad to help you out.

Took nearly a week to figure out that was actually the issue. Mechanics pulled the entire control harness only for me to find the issue on that part.
Kept blowing fuses, all back up and running now, about to go for a test run.

Hoping its ok to revive an old thread. I lost half of my steering wheel controls. I have narrowed it down to the buttons or more likely the dreaded clock spring PN 1773984. I called Sea Ray parts guy in Newport Beach. He said this part is discontinued and no longer available. Any chance anyone has an idea of how to disassemble this unit or any other ideas? Thanks in advance. I really appreciate it.
2005 240 Sun Deck.

Last year or 2 they had this part when I was having this issue.
I believe I contacted marinemax in pompano beach, FL
Maybe they can Ship it to you if they still have the part.
I ended up just removing mine entirely.

How did you end up removing the clock spring unit? Does it just unplug? I tried to pull the plug off but didn't want to break it, is there a trick to it?
