268DA and Weekenders

Impulsive; I have an Impulse 2831 fishfinder/loran.The antenna is going bad and putting out fiberglass splinters-Ouch. Any one know how to fix the antenna or where to find a replacement? I think the company that made them is out of business.....

Re: Transom Seat

My 87 268 Sea Ray Weekender does not have a transom seat. I want to increase my seating area. If anyone here has built a sear for the back, can you post pics.

Do not waste your time and money on this, buy a couple of good folding chairs with the sides that you can turn into a little table and you will be surprised. They have at Sam's for about $35.00 each. Plus you will still have the big dance floor if you ever need it?

Hello. Just got my first big boat '88 268 Weekender last October. Love it. Glad to see there are more of the same out there. Found oil leak in my tilt/trim reservoir and replaced it with some electrical help from one of the other members. Cleaned up all the old oil, leaves, and misc junk that had accumulated under the engine when I dewinterized. Feeling alot better about that now. I've had the boat out twice so far and runs great. Sure goes thru gas though and the gas gauge does not work so I have to gas plenty before trips. Need to buff and clean some more but really thinking hard about a winter repaint. Other projects are redo bimini (replace broken ss and new fabric, maybe add an arch, and definetly a camper top, redo inside radio, add radio outside, repair one exposed rotted area in the engine compartment, etc, etc. Oh well, I'm still having fun with it. If anybody needs advice on replacing their hydraulic hoses for the tilt/trim pump, I have some useful tips. I learned the hard way. Will try to load some pictures, having a bit of problems doing that but I'll figure it out. Safe boat all---------- Tom

Hope the pictures show up. We have two foreign exchange students (boys) staying with us until later this month and they really love going on the boat as do the grandkids. Boating is a new experience for all of us and loving it.

Well I just got back from Layton Utah watched my Grandson Graduate H.S. had a good time what Beautiful county.
I rewired the trailer with 12ga THHN wire for the lights and 10ga THHN for the brakes before I left. I had 2 new bilge pumps and a set of Electric Brakes and break away kit waiting for me when I got home so now I need to get to work hopefully I should be hitting the water in a few weeks.

I was just in Salt Lake City 5 days ago myself, Grew up in western colo. Good luck with that 268 this year, let us know she does

Almost done with Miss Windshift. Lots of dollars into it this year. Rewired 1/2 of her, seems like the past owner kept on adding things but never tagged or removed the old wiring (what a headache).
Installed new Garmin Fishfinder 400C
Installed new Garmin VHF 100
Instaled 2 new PFD-IV ring buoy
Installed new Shakespear Seat Watch 2025 TV Antenna
Installed new Sharp 19" LCD HD/DVD combo TV
Installed new Talor Made Deck Hatch 18x18
Installed new batteries (3) Everstart Maxx29
Installed new Sunforce 1000W inverter
Rewired the windlass
Rewired stereo system and added a remote control on the dashboard
Rewired macerator pump
Clean her up tomorrow and Wednesday
Hit the water Friday
Very busy and expensive month, but I will be very comfortable aboard Miss Windshift.

Dadubo;
Ca we get this thread fixed so that we can go into the latest messages first, or is there something I'm missing?

WOW you have been busy! I pulled the wheels and brakes off the left side yesterday the brakes look brand new so that tells me that the trailer was just used for storage or they never worked so the electric brakes will go on this week. I am going to repaint all the backing plates and put ant seize on the adjusters so I don't have to mess with them for a while. I got the 4 electric brake set up's and break away kit for $250. I put a new stereo in and 12 CD changer in with a wired remote for the dash so now I can load the music for the day.

Hi 268er's -

Has anyone out there replaced the bench helm seat with one of those flip back bench seats they sell for pontoon boats? I would like the helm seat to face the stern when anchored and entertaining guests.

Thanks,
chuck

Sounds intersting but then you will loose the 2 jump seats and ice/drink holder.

Hello,
I'm new here. I have been searching this forum for as much information as I can get on a 1988 268 Sundancer. I'm pretty sure I'm going to purchase the boat. But I have a few questions. Mechanically the boat is sound, cosmetically it needs work.

1. The cockpit seating is destroyed. the rear drop down bench seat is missing and the 2 drop down seats are rotten. Is there a place to purchase factory replacements?

2. What is the top speed, cruising speed, and fuel consumption of this boat? I realize it will vary from boat to boat, but a good average is what I am looking for. (I don't know if they all came with the 454 but this one has it)

3. I've checked Sea Ray's website for the archived boat specs. I see the 268 WE but not the 268 DA. Are the general specs the same between the Weekender and the Sundancer? Does someone have the boat specs that they could email me?

Thank you,
Larry

To get your specs, look at the 89's. don't know the fuel question, i don't have the BBC but others here do and they can tell you. No factory replacements on the seats that i know of, but with a lot of money and time you can rebuild them. Myself i would look for a boat that needs as little as possable. Keep this in mind Larry, a nice boat has been maintained. Good luck

Just Me... Thanks for the quick reply.
I will take a look at the 89 specs.

As far as the maintenance, you are absolutely correct. Mechanically the boat has been supremely well maintained. The cabin is virtually spotless. The only tear in the cabin fabric is a wear spot on the back of the seat as you step down. It looks as though it was used as a handhold and just got worn out. The transom is sound, the gel coat is in good shape other than one rub spot (approx 3" X 3"). The electronics are in good shape. The only canvas that comes with it is a cockpit cover. So I will be investing in a Camper Canvas.

Again the only problem with the boat is the cockpit seating.

I have had it inspected and the price is right. Even adding the cost of the canvas and (estimated cost of) seating, the price falls in line with NADA and is slightly lower than others I have seen in worse shape.

Thanks again for the reply and the advice.

Tras h if all the seating frames are there you can easily have then recovered, I personally took my rear seat out along with some others and will be using deck chairs. If you are going to replace the helm seat I would go with buckets or drop downs. Check here http://greatlakesskipper.com/category-1/3-cabin-and-galley.html
As far as fuel I would say it depends on your driving style, but with a BBC it won’t be good if you are balls out all the time.

Do any of you guys have leak issues getting the carpet wet? I found my shower sump full and soaking the carpet, I installed a new pump with a float switch. We had a pretty good rain the other day and the pump was going off. I took the drain covers off the window frames and cleaned them out and drilled a couple extra holes at the back of the frame to see if that works.

No , but i saw a 268 sitting for sale at a dealer one time, it was parked bow down on a hill, lot's of rain the day before, i went to look at it, when i got to the cabin there was 10in of water inside.
