268DA and Weekenders

What you can do for the TV is get an inverter to power it up that is what I did on a Conversion Van I had because the 12V TV was way expensive. I don't have the Teak railing but I would imagine it is bolted from under the gunnel you will more than likely have to take the rear seat out to get to the bolts. I personal don’t see the rear seat being of much use with it being so low I am going to make it a ski locker and use deck chairs back there.

Also looking for a new deck hatch, the parts number list that I have lists this part number as 226829, I guess because of it's age, I can not find one either. It is an 18X18 Low profile Deck Hatch - Anyone knows where I can look for those items, please let me know.quote]

Check with Bomar Marine they make Deck Hatches

Funny yo should say that, it is the first thing I did and I have 3 deck chairs tha fit perfectly.

Started collecting stuff for the boat got a 4" Shurflo Yellow Tail bilge blower for $20 and a older Pioneer 12 CD changer for $25 off E-Bay. I was looking at a new stereo system because she has the original Pioneer tape deck in her but what the heck I figured it would be cheaper just to buy the CD changer now I have to do is get speakers. Well that is 2 things off my list:thumbsup:

Hey count me in. I purchased a 1988 268 weekender from my bro inlaw last May. I knew the history of the boat which helped with the decision to buy it. My wife and I are replacing all the foam in the cabin this winter. The uphostery is still in great shape but the foam has broken down over the years. We went to Lake Powell last Sept. for 10 days and can't wait to go back in 2010. One other project for this winter is to replace the window felt on the sliding windows in the cabin. I contacted Taylor Made and they still carry it in 9 ft. lengths. I will order some after Christmas and start that project as well.

Hi glad to have you here we can always use more info on doing things to our boats. Take some Pictures of your projects while you are doing it and post them, the best way I have found is going to PhotoBucket.com and they give a link where you can post full size pictures. Right now I am collecting things to put on or replace, with the Illinois weather I am limited to what I can do outside. Again welcome aboard.

Yeah. pics of lake Powell, I grew up in western Colorado, Spent some time on that lake. Maybe i will make it there in 2010 also. Last time i was there was around 91 or 92. I'm over due.

Since I have to do mine also I did some looking a while back ... The paint needs to be of sort that does not have any metal in it for electrical erosion concerns when on shore power. Also bottom paint next to out drive is a bad thing too. Cleaning the old out drive paint off with a wire brush and leaving embedded metal in the alum is a bad thing too.

I found a DIY boat repair site some time ago and read all this. It seemed a little extreme at first, but after I thought about it some I thought maybe so.
Of course can't find the site now, had it saved once ... with viruses I've had to reload my lap time a few times so my saved stuff is always gone.

Lets hope some one will chime in on this. There’s most likely some info to be found with the search option, but sometimes I rather just see what the latest and greatest is. Now get off your as and go plow some snow:grin:...

Happy new year to you and all. cheers ...Ron

Getting ready to take the lower unit apart and rebuild the water pump and paint the out drive. Got the Shutters ordered, has any one else found their shutters broken? Just wondering how common it is for them to break, I would never of thought about them if I wouldn't of taken the lower unit off and found the broken pieces laying here. As long as it is apart I am going to replace both bellows and reseal every thing then I should be good for a few years. Still need to take the Exhaust Manifolds off and check them but I will wait until the cold weather is done and temps are staying in the 40's just to make sure condensation doesn’t get into the heads.

Looks like this is 268 water pump repair week. The temp here is going to be in the sixties starting tomorrow. Time for a water pump overhaul...Going to paint the out drive as well...Merc. makes a special paint and primer for the I/O which I plan to use..

Nope-battery charger is a no show. Not one on the boat. I just used an old one I had to top off the batteries last week. Not sure what I will do next ref. battery charging...
