268 weekender transom rot (contains high resolution pics)

Tomorrow 04/03/2010 will be the moment of truth...lol She is put back together enough to splash her in the lake just to make sure i have no other issues

May God bless you and your boat. It is always a little scary when you do all that work but I am sure all will be good.
You have under taken one heck of a job but you have your youth to drive you.:smt001

youth... lol.. Well the test drive went ok. It floats with no water leaks. Had shift cable issues and carb issues. But the main issue was when we went to load the boat. The boat wouldn't load right. the bow hook kept hitting the lower bow roller. I had to surmerge the whole trailer to get the boat back on.The only thing i can come up with is now that the boat isn't has heavy in the rear the bow isn't at a high angle anymore.

Believe it or not, sometimes you want less trailer in the water so that the boat can be slightly powered up near its final position. If you think about it, the more the trailer is submerged, the less the boat is supported by the trailer and more by the water. Powering on large boats is one of the only ways I've found it possible due to bow roller/winch interference.

That was it. As long as i've owned this boat I always had to put the trailer just till the frt of the fenders were under water. Now i have to back down till only half of the fender is submerged

a couple of pics of it on the water

This is how I have to do it. We try to minimize it and my wife will back the trailer up a bit after the pulpit clears the trailer. I can then use minimal power to go the rest of the way up. Doesn't always work that easily - tides, winds and other boats around will always work against you somehow!

Lime - Glad to see your boat back on the water! Looks good out there!

Bunk trailers are better for being self centering. I would power my Formula on and off the trailer I know the roller trailer is going to be a pain in the butt the only saving grace is it has a power winch to suck it on. I saw a guy drop a 260 Liberator off a roller trailer because he un hooked the winch before he was in the water.:smt021

I figured while i was in there i was going to replace the freshwater lines. Decided to use pextubing.

It just gets better and better...I wonder where it's going to end...lol I decided today was the day to finish installing new vinyl on the boat. When i removed the port side panels no rot was found. Removed the starboard panel and the wood that helps hold the radar arch on is mush.. Atleast it's an easy fix

Like i side atleast it's an easy fix. The reason it rotted out was cause of the hole they drilled for the wiring harness. Factory never sealed it

Just an update. The boat now stays on plane at 3300 rpm's 25 mph according to gps and only sucking up 13.01 gallons of fuel per hour. Before it would stay on plane at 3800 rpm's speed 25 mph with a fuel burn of 18.89 gallons an hour. So basically i'm saving an extra 6 gallons of fuel per hour.. So in my opinion it was well worth doing.. Just got a lowrance hds-5m gps/plotter for the cheseapeke bay area. So now i have to learn how to use that...lol

Hey Lime,
Glad to hear your boat project is going well. I put in new carpet, stereo/DVD system, and did some upholstery and seat work. Always something to do!
I have the same Lowrance model you have...the Lake Insight edition. The learning curve is def a steep one. lol
Keep in touch,
Mooner

I have insight for coastal area's Including the cheseapeke bay area. My local lake isn't covered on any inland lake maps
