Hi Guys,

First post on the site. Very informative - thanks!

I'm after a bit of help/advice. I'm looking at purchasing a UK 1989 268 Sundancer and after a very thorough marine survey, one thing seems a little odd.

It appears that both engine legs are right handed. The port engine was replaced a couple of years ago with a new engine and the vendor informs me that he was told that this was the way they came from the factory (i.e. two right handed legs). The new engine and leg was fitted by a Merc dealer.

They're both Merc 4.7l units and the boat appears to have been supplied new in the UK (where I am).

Does this seem normal? Will I notice a difference in handling characteristics?

Thanks in advance

Mat

My 89 300 DA is the same way and both props spin the same direction. You probably won't notice much difference in handling. It does make it nice when it comes to spare props though!

Don't know if this is normal but it sure seems odd to me. My old 250 with a single BII 7.4L had a good deal of stern movement from prop-wash. I imagine it would be tremendously noticable. Just my thoughts

I agree with sfergson 727, I also belive that was nomal for that boat. I had a dock neighbour who had the same set up in his 29ft Thundercraft. He did change the one leg so he had counter rotating props at a cost of $2500.00 about 6 yrs ago. He made the change as he always backed into his slip and he found it much easier to back up with the counter rotating props.
