Looking at buying a 79' 260we with twin 307's. This seems to be a very unusual option. Does anyone have any info on this set-up? fuel consumption, serviceablity, etc.

Twin disc transmissions
I don't know about the marine versions but in the 70's GM had a 307 engine which was just a smaller displacement 350, same block, accessories etc. I had a '70 Chevelle with one and it was a cool car.
I would think this would be OK, and if needed, 350 block should bolt right in.

Are you sure they are not twin 260 HP 350s? That's the twin configuration I remember. Boat was very nice in its day. It did sit low in the water due to the weight of twin V8s. I don't remember hearing it was hard to service.
