260 Sundancer Thread.........Comments questions and answers

I saw a 260 last summer at lake powell with a set up. He mounted the motor on swim deck as a limp home motor. He also tie up his zodiac. Seems he thought to get the best from both worlds. When I asked him what he was thinking. He had lost his only motor on a different boat and would never be caught like that again. (must have been the storm, huh?) Just my 02.

Thanks Loren,
Doesn't anyone else carry a kicker? After all the cautions about a portable gas generator I'm a little nervous about storing the OB motor.

Storage modifications?

Have any of you 260 owners converted your hanging closet into storage shelves? I recall reading about the modification on SRO, but can't remember the details. I'm looking for pictures, material suggestions, and construction ideas. On my boat the hanging closet isn't utilized efficiently.

Dave S. I'm still searching for the round table "dedicated storage" .

I am in the process of making making a table holder so I can create the "dedicated storage" area in the bilge. Once I finish , I'll post pictures. BTW............I sent Sea Ray an email and asked the location of the "dedicated storage" area and they never replied.............imagine that! :smt021

Loren,

I just bought a c80 with a chartplotter and radar. I'm trying to answer the same question. I think you have the right idea ...Here's a pic that I found on the web:

I think that's a c80 on a 2004 260DA ????

Thanks Charlie. Mines an 02, bad typing. You can see that I have room down low to the left or thats my depth sounder directly behind my wheel.

Thank You
Loren :smt100

I have a Garmin 192C Chartplotter mounted at the helm. It is on the "shelf" under my gauges. All the way on the far right up against the widshield (just above the switch panel). Easy to see while underway and doesn't block the gauges... it is at a good height to be visible while standing. I'll try to remember to take a pic tomorrow when i go "work" on the boat. That should consist of sitting in the sun and wondering why it is on land!

Hey Charlie seems I was wrong my boat is an 03 but I looked at the web and there was two different helms. One looks like the 02. I was about to call the dealer today and wonder if I was baited and switched because of the picture you posted and looking at the searay archives. We did have some trouble getting the title. MM Las Vegas got the boat from MM grand Junction and Colorado titles are in the form of a card. I have just enough room down low to the left but would be hard to see when standing, will look at the putting up and too the left. Thanks

I took a picture of my GPS today... i just have to take some time and figure out how to post it.
On another note, has anyone here put rod holders on their 260?

Installing Fishfinder combo

I posted this in the electronics q & a also but figure some of you have done this already so help please. When installing a new fishfinder combo, do I need to keep the new transducer away from the existing depth finder transducer and how much trouble is installing a thru hull verses a transom mount. Thank You.

My curiousity is getting to me. I came across this picture of a stove installed in a 2005 260DA.

My stove is not installed in that orientation. My lid opens back against the cabinets and not to the side as shown in that picture. How is your's installed?

The stove in that picture is installed improperly. The glass top should open against the back cabinet so that you cannot catch yourself on it as you walk past. The stove needs to be turned 90 deg clockwise so the fuel cannister is on the right side, not the top.

Well, the galley is different on our 2000 (the stove opens as yours does, though), but here's the galley pic from the Sea Ray archives -- that looks like the hinge on the right rear of the stove cover, so my guess is that the stove was oriented same as yours.

IIRC, the stove is square....wonder if it can be removed an rotated? Not sure why you'd do that, though. Maybe to open up access to the cabinet behind when the cover is open?

Jeff

Dave: What an interesting find. Our stove is oriented like yours, opening to the rear. Speaking of the gas stove, what is the glass top designed for -- how do you use it when not operating the stove?

Did Sea Ray provide you with a drain plug for the kitchen and/or cockpit sinks?

I am not sure on that one but I believe they should be provided. :smt017 I know we got them for the two sinks on our 240SD. I'll have to check my stash of "miscellaneous stuff" on the boat to see if they are there.

It's strictly a cover but you can set things on it too.

Ours was in the owners packet. As far as the stove. On our 04 the stove lifted up towards the back like Daves.

Our 00' lifts to the back. But it may not be mine much longer...
