260 Sundancer Thread.........Comments questions and answers

Oh. On mine the filler pads were actually part of the side bolsters held on with thick velcro strips. So they never needed to be stored. That must be the difference. Maybe your table can still fit in there with the fill in cushions? Just a thought. Seems like they would have a place to store it.

Although our filler cushions were originally designed as part of the seatback, attached with velcro, the boat came with a one-piece filler cushion (it's covered in the OEM fabric -- maybe an option in 2000?). That's stored in the center v-berth compartment under the v-berth/cabin tabletop. We recently started leaving that table down, and I was surprised at how much more space there is in the cabin now.

Dave S and other 2006 260 Owners: Are you aware of the transducer and fuel system (faulty strap of some sort) recalls on our boats? I've had my transducer replaced -- don't yet have details regarding the fuel system issue. The recalls may not apply to all 2006 boats. If you haven't been contacted by your dealer, you may wish to give them a call.

Thanks for the heads up on this one. I will ask my dealer about this.

So, in the spirit of the 240 Sundeck Top Speed Discussion (Sorry Dave S) I couldn't resist. What is your top speed via GPS. I have gotten 44.7 MPH.

I have just a bit more than 20 hours on the engine so I haven't tried for the "record" yet.

Right now it's about 37 mph according to my Navman GPS. That's about what I expected with the 350mag. I think the 496 will hit mid 40s. Maybe Thunderbird1 can let us know what his top end is since he has the big block.

This weekend with a full tank of gas and 4 people on board, 42 MPH by GPS on a flat river (4500 RPM). With less weight and a properly trimmed boat, I'm sure I could grind out high 40's.

Sundeck to Sundancer

Dave,

So happy to have found this thread. I just spent an amazing season on my 2002 210 Sundeck I purchased good-as-new at the end of last season (with only 28 hours on it!). While I couldn't enjoy this boat any more, after a 3 night, 112nm round-trip adventure this summer (overnighting at marinas near hotels and friends) I now have a keen understanding of the pleasure of being self-sufficient on a cruiser. While it will be hard to give up the SD, I now have my sights firmly set on the 260. I had originally thought the 290SS would be the right balance of cockpit space, which is so wonderful on the SD, and a place to sleep, but after seeing a new 260 at my marina, I did some research and came to the realization that 2 berths are better than one when you love to be with friends (and the dog). The 260 also seems like the perfect LOA for my needs and you don't have to get involved with twin engines, which while appealing on some levels, seems like a lot of extra work and expense. I am afraid of giving up the performance I have become accustomed to with the 5.0 Bravo 3 and will be looking for a 496. I am looking forward to reading more from you & owners who have moved up from sport boats to cruisers and if there are any regrets. Now if I could only keep it in the water year-round in upstate New York!

The 260 is a great little cruiser. The latest iteration is just an evolution of the previous design with some updating and more modern touches.

The 496 would be my choice for a motor as well but you have to draw the line somewhere on the budget. Test both the 350 Mag and the 496 if you can. The 350 cruises nicely between about 3700-4000 RPM. Our 260 is equipped with just about everything else except for a generator.

Have fun looking and shopping!

The fuel system issue is a MerCruiser recall (Service Bulletin 2006-09). I received official notice today in the mail. It says "On your model of Mercury Mercruiser engine, a metal clip that holds the fuel damper in place was determined by our supplier to be out of specification and must be replaced." The notice also warns that the engine should not be operated until repaired "as there exists a possibility that the clip could fail and result in a fuel leak and fire."

I replied in a similar posting you had in a different thread but I would like to know if only the 496 is affected or if other engines are involved as well. When you find out would you let us know?

Thanks.

Hello

Hi All,

I just bought a 2004 260 Sundancer. I had a 24' walk around, but my wife would rarely go boating with me because she didn't feel comfortable on it. It's really encouraging to read how much everyone enjoys these boats. I think she's going to like this one.

Dave S, that's a great picture.

Hi Charlie..................I see this is your first post so welcome to Club Sea Ray. We are really enjoying our 260DA and I think you will like yours too.

260 Sundancer

Hello Everyone just another from SRO. Just found your site. I to own a 260 sundancer. Its an 03 used mostly on lake mohave, lake havasu, occasionaly up to lake mead and lake powell. Taken it out to catalina island once. Just can't beat it. When we attend Marinemax getaways most of the larger sundancer crowds really envy our ability to pack up and take our boat anywhere we would. It just my wife and
11 year old daughter. (sometimes a friend for daughter) This has got to the best boat for size and handling. Nice to see other liked minded people here. Any questions that any of you have for this area, drop a line been boating this area around 10 years now and have a little insight to the area. We are planning an off shore trip for next summer to the channel islands then down the coast. May plan it around marinemax getaway to ensenada or catalina. Happy boating :smt038

Loren, welcome aboard! What is boating like this time of year on Lake Mohave? Maybe I should be a showbird with the boat. My wifes parents spent many winters on the federal land in that area, and tell me it is great in winter, with a motorhome. I'm curious what it would be like with a boat.

Boating on Lake mohave

Great question. With daytime highs still in the high 70's or low 80's. Real nice. The traffic that keeps the lake sloshy, (jet ski's) is gone. The only problem is that our winters can be real windy. The wind runs about three days at a time then the lake becomes like glass. So peaceful. No lines at the ramps. I still find that i have to roll up the camper except at night. We try to go out a
least once a month. My wife works at the Golden nugget grave yard so we go out after i get off friday and i bring her in at midnight to the ramp, then back to anchor. Next morning around 10 she calls me and I pick her back up. Even in the wind there are plenty of great sandy beaches to anchor on. Go down below watch a movie listen for the ringing of my fishing pole bell. I think you get the picture. :smt038

Kicker OB ... where??

Do any of you 260 owners carry a small outboard around with you?
Where do you store it?

I have an 8' zodiac with a 3.5hp johnson outboard. I plan to pull the zodiac onto the swim platform while underway, but I'm not sure where I can store the motor on the 260.
