I have a 260 sd with the 6.2 liter. My question is when I start out do I need to have my trim tabs down to get up on plane or can I start with them up and adjust as needed for listing. I find it easier to start with them up and then adjust. I know i need to have the stern drive trimmed down. I'm new to boating and when I start with them down I have a hard time keeping the boat from listing. Thanks any advice will be helpful. Keets.

If you want a good understanding on the use of trim tabs take the time to read thru this posting. http://www.byowneryachts.com/forums/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2593&highlight=tabs

I think just about everyone will tell you don't use the tabs until you are on plane and then only when trying to balance the boat side to side or if you are going real slow and want to keep the bow down.

Do you have a Sundeck or a Sundancer?

I have a sundancer. I ran up to Pittsburgh about 30 miles ave 3,500 and 4,000 rpm at about 25 to 32 mph. Is that about where I should be? 3 adults loaded with water, beer, pop and food ect.

3,900 seems to be the ideal RPMs for the 260. 3,500-4,000 is a good range to use.

Watch your GPH/MPG (if you have Smartcraft or some other fuel meter) and adjust up or down based on that. Another good indicator is the sound the engine makes... you can usually tell when you are in the sweet spot.
