Had Boat out this weekend. Trim started acting up when engaging. Fluid level is good and can hear pump trying to move but will not lower from trailer position.

The alpha drive on my sister's welcraft ecclipse used to get "stuck" after being stored on the lift over the winter... pump worked, and fluid full, but the rams wouldnt lower the drive. Although it never got stuck above the highest trim-up setting (ie not trailer position) we would take it off the lift and exercise it up and down, up and down, with some pre-plane power to the drive. After a few up and downs, with the assist of the load from the engine/prop thrust, it would go all the way down and be fine for the rest of the winter. (Incidentally, the drive always started in the fully down position at winterization but would raise itself slowly as winter went on... after a 2nd set of new braided hydraulic lines this past summer, it did not move from the full down position this winter.)

Not sure I would recommend loading the drive in the fully up trailered position.

Remove the lines from the drive and try moving the drive by hand. Lift up and down... push hard. Use some wood as a spacer between the drive and the transom housing... just in case it all of a sudden lets go - that way it doesn't slam into the housing. Create the spacer such that the drive would only fall a few inches. You're basically doing what Jim described, but like he said, not a good idea to run the engine with the drive in the full up position. It's possible that one of the spacers inside the ram is either stuck (hopefully) or cracked.
