Looking for advice on how to make better video's from those with more experience.

This is my first attempt at filming on my boat, I must say, I was a little dissapointed, not in the camera (GoPro Hero3 Black), but, in the way the video came out. I was hoping to capture a little more drama, lol, I had the camera mounted on the windshield using the GoPro suction cup mount, and, the positioning may be the issue here as the video does not really show things like the amount of bow rise, the amount of lean I had when turning (there was quite a lot :) ), any sense of speed (30mph indicated on my GPS).

Before it gets noted, yes, I realize I left my fenders out and dragging, and I need to clean the deck :).....first time out since July 4th and was a little excited :).

Does anybody have any tips regarding placement to capture these things a little better?? I have pretty much every mount and gadget there is out there for the GoPro :)

Regards

Jake

I am relatively new to these and use the same camera as you. GP hero 3 black. Main comment:
-Have you downloaded gp studio for editing? You can clip out sections, slow mo, add text. For a free download, it's a fairly powerful editing program.
-there are templates for beginneers. After that, you can start from scratch with a blank.

it is intuitive, but you have to be willing to put the time in playing with the software, read the manual, etc. I also joined a gopro forum. Tons of information out there.

Hi Bill, yes I have the GoPro studio, great little app for basic editing etc, I think what I am looking for are better mounting locations for a more dramatic video...I may be brave and mount it under the pulpit :), or on the bow itself a little ways up from the waterline :)

Sorry, misunderstood your question. I have a go pro arm that articulates. It is about 1 ft long. One end has a clamp, so you can mount it on a bow rail, or anywhere the clamp can get a grip with. I have used this for some different angles. You may want to check out the go pro forum, run by an Aussie named Rambo. Great site for ideas.

Cant help you with your video question, but for God's sake I hope your fenders weren't hanging over the side during that trip!

Woth such a dramatic response I assume this is some kind of boating faux par?? It wouldn't be the first time, prolly won't be the last :)

who cares? aside from getting a little splash from them what harm is it doing? i have left them out if i know i'm just going out for a few minutes to test something or going out to raft up...
