240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

My 240 Sundeck 2008 started to make a crunchy noise trying to start.
Has anyone ever changed out the starter, and if so, what had to be removed for access??
It has a 350 Mercruiser engine.
Appreciate any information.

I haven’t changed out my starter, but I did replace the manifolds and risers last spring.

With the starboard riser, manifold and elbow removed, and you laying over the top of the engine, it looked like replacing the starter is feasible.

I also found a receipt from a previous owner where the starter was replaced. It didn’t specify engine removal and the total cost parts and labor was under $600 from a Mercruiser dealer.

Thank you for your information. That's my thought for the replacement.
It would be great if you can scan and send me a copy of the former owners receipt.
You can private email me the scan.
Thanks

Looking for help, My 2006 captains chair is starting to fail. The Vinyl is good, but the shell inside is cracking. I can't seem to find a match anywhere I look online. Any advice? My vinyl is the off-white and nickel color

You are probably going to have to remove the vinyl and rebuilt your seat shell. Maybe you could repair it with fiberglass?

I have been trying to figure out what to do with mine. My bolster padding is shot and when I have it flipped up the metal bar inside digs in and hurts after a short amount of time

I have looked at hundreds of seats on dozens of sites. nothing matches. not even close. I'm thinking i'll have to just go a basic white vinyl for now, and then in a couple more years redo the interior with new colors. the SeaRay golden tan that they call Nickel is hard to match when you are upgrading. I think that removing the cover, fixing the seat, and recovering would be extremely difficult/expensive versus just buying a new $200-300 seat.

If any of the wonderful people on this site have better options, please let me know

That seat is nothing special...it should be easy to disassemble and reassemble.
Not sure what is broken. if it's just the shell it can be reinforced with thin plate on either side and riveted to make a sandwich effect... it's worth a try if your'e going to toss them anyway.
Sea Ray usually bolted the sections together from the bottom...you might have to remove a few staples to access the bolts, separate, remove all staples to remove vinyl and foam to get to the frame

Hello Everyone!

First time boat owner. I purchased a 2002 Sundeck 240 back in December and just got it in the water this week.

I am sure I will be on the board with questions as I get more acquainted with the boat. Anyhow, I noticed that I am getting water in the trash can under the sink area after rain. Anyone have this issue in the past? The only thing I can figure is water is getting in around the bimini top support and running under the cup holders. I did notice the epoxy under the cups is dried out.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have had the same problem. I resealed the cup holders, still got water. Best I figured was water is flowing off the countertop and down the side, coming in through the door area. I notice that if I change the tilt of the boat a little to the port side and raise the bow, problem goes away.

Thank you for the response. I resealed the cups today see if that reduces the water at all. If not maybe add a rubber gasket to the doors under the sink.

My 240 has drain tubes that connect to the bottom of the cup holders. They are up and hard to notice.

I have a question for those that have the camper enclosure. I ordered the complete kit from Great Lakes over the winter and would like to get it set up. I assume that it connects to the windshield but the channel/groove on the windshield is something that I am not familiar with. What do I need to install snaps in this channel?

Great and thank you! Just ordered a pack to see if they will work, really don't want to drill into the windshield frame.

So, I thought I would post an update to the repair.
Here is the original problem once I got the seat apart.

I got some 3/32' bar stock from the local hardware srore and made a oversize plate to reinforce it, and then put it all back together.

Just purchased the boat and have some questions:
1. Trim worked on boat until we loaded it up and it wouldn't work for a moment. Took it out today, week later, and the trim wouldn't go down. I can hear the motor but no action. The fluid is below min. so I'm going to add some tomorrow. I assume if that doesn't fix the problem then I need to move to pump. Has anyone changed out the pump and if so any tips, advice, and don'ts? View attachment 69672

2. Seat cushion security? I've seen discussions and usually been about replacing the lost cushions after they have flown out. Has anyone figured out how to secure the seat cushions for trailering? I'm thinking of using catches. I'll post pictures. If anyone else has used something, will they post screenshots of the types latches or catches and of course ideas are welcome except tie down straps because we're classier than that, lol.

1) can't help you with trim, but I bet low fluid is the problemm. finding and mixing the leak will the be the second part of the problem.

2) I have only had 1 cushion problem, and that is the port side lounge cushion. Some people secure it bu trapping it with the bolster on the co-pilot hair, but I just put it in the restroom to be safe.

Strangest issue:

I found out that it's not the fluid bc the fluid will show low while the outdrive is up. Makes sense bc the fluid is in the cylinders.

Here's the update. I drain the fluid to get the outdrive down. Tried again from the throttle and no results. Went to the trailer trim and after three pushes it went up. After a few more presses it went up and down. Went to throttle and worked fine. Cut the batteries off and started to cover her up. I then decided to let the outdrive down since it was up. Again, not working. Currently I'm draining the fluid to allow for the outdrive to go down. I'm lost, my two assumptions is something electrical or something sticking on the cylinders. Any suggestions would be great.
