240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

I am considering the purchase of a used 240 Sundeck. I was hoping this forum would offer some do's, don'ts, and "run from's".
Thanks for any information you could share.

Hi and welcome!

Anything specific that you were wondering about? I may be partial, but I think that the 240 Sundeck is the perfect boat.
It is great for the lake, the ocean, plenty of seating, powerful, etc. It is very versatile, and best of all....it's a Sea Ray. What year, hours, condition were you looking at?

A brokerage called wm yachts in Venice Florida has both a 1996 and 1997 listed. Both are reputed to be in excellent condition, though I still have much due-diligence to do on that matter.
What I am interested in know is:
are there any quirks to these early designs that either recommend them, or are a disaster for the owner?
Were there power/outdrive options that should be sought after, or avoided?
I am on a limited budget, so must consider only older models, or not at all.
THanks for any insights you can share.

Whitey,

You have some genuine concerns that may get lost in this thread. Try posting a new topic in the Sport Boat board of this site. I bet you will get the answers you need. This is a great site for this type of help. Good luck.

The inside of the head door appears to be missing the locking mechanism. Can anyone tell me what kind of lock it is? I looked at the parts manual, but it only shows the outside handle.

hmmm... seems there was a discussion on this.... but may have been on SRO... I'll try and look tomorrow if you don't get an answer and see if there are any part # /markings on mine.

Charlie,

I think you have to purchse the whole thing

Here is the part number.
1717317 LATCH, OFFSHR MORTISE RH-OUT PRVKNB CHR
1784623 PLATE, STRIKER OFFSHR MORTISE (FOR 1717317)
1754071 PLATE, MOBELLA SHIM CHR/BRS

Talk with your dealer about it.

Thanks Chuck. I sent a request into Russo Marine for a quote.

Is there a trick to using the Smartcraft trim feature? I calibrated it twice, but still can't get an acurate reading. It stays at 00 even when I trim up.

Charlie,

Sorry I can't help you on that one. Does is show it going up or down or just keep reading 0? I saw you posted it in the other section so hope you get a quick response.

Chuck

Just 00.

I think I'm the newest 240SD owner since I have an 06 that I bought at the end of October.

I do not have a new 240 Sd, but I've added a lot of new items....does that count?

I put in the new stainless cupholders, a new GPS, and I added a refrigerator. It's a college size that fit in the helm storage area next to the cooler. I use a shore power adapter to get 110v while I'm docked, and it keeps the beer cold while we're on the water. :smt038

Today, I installed the grill I got for dad's day. I used a dual mount with a lock, so it can stay in place while cruising. What do you guys think of the location??? I spent days deliberating over the best spot on the boat. :smt101 :smt101

No, but I'll take some tonight. Any excuse to go to the boat is a good one.

I basically set it in next to the cooler slide out and ran the cord so that it is in the cutout under the shifter. Then I run an extension cord to the shorepower pole. It stays in place very nicely.

The grill looks good. Can you still get to anchor storage area? Hey that fridge idea sounds interesting and they say I've the cruiser SD model  .

Can you still get to anchor storage area?

Yes. With the grill in, the anchor door will open up to 90 degrees. When you take the grill out, there are two flush mounts with caps.

Do you have pictures of the frig install?

Isn't it amazing how much room is under the helm.. I love the frig idea. The grill location and install is really great too however we use the front bow ladder a lot while beached and I'm thinking that's also when we'd be using the grill the most. hmmm.. very kewl installs tho!

another hmmm... can an inverter handle a frig with any practicality? need to look up those posts about 'lectric stuff/batteries/inverter/watts and etc.. :smt017
