240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

I was at the boat today and after warming her up she was about 140F+-. When I took her out she was running around the 150F+- Range. We are talking F not C Correct??

240 Sundeck or 260 Sundeck

I need your advice. I purchased a 2007 200 Sundeck this past September and have only used it 3 times. After I took the boat out I realized I might have bought a boat that is too small. We are a family of 4 and there is not much more room for anyone else. We would like to ask friends and family but the boat seems cramped especially in the cockpit area. Here is my question is the new 260 Sundeck worth 10-15k more than the 240 Sundeck. I like the fact that the 260 Sundeck has a deeper foredeck in the front. I have small children and the Sundeck's foredeck seems kinda shallow. I like both of these boats especially the fact that I have a 5 year old daughter and she is bashful about going to potty. I like the large head compartment with a vacc-flush head. Do you guys think the 260 is worth that much more than the 240??? Any input will be greatly appreciated. By the way I love the fit and finish of the Sea Ray. I had a Chaparral previously and there is no comparison. I was always secretly envious of Sea Ray owners.

Welcome to the board riversidelimo, you will probably get more answers if you make a new posting. Your post will probably get lost by most viewers buried in a 6 page thread. Again welcome to CSR you will find alot of great people here.

Welcome aboard, sounds like Wesley already gave you a good idea about posting a new message. Personal I like the 240, the 260 is deeper up front, but has a square look to me. My teenage girl likes the armrest up front on the 260

Hey Jim..............good to see you back on the board!

And Chuck, I am still a member of the 240SD crowd since I still have my 2002 (still for sale). I am itching to get the thing back out on the lake at least one more time (hopefully) before it gets sold. :smt038

Have you gotten any bites yet on your 240? Mine may be going on the market soon and am curious as to how quickly it will sell.

Hi Riverside,

I have a 2006 240 sundeck and it works very well for us. we are a family of 5 and my youngest is 6. I went back and forth between the 240 and 260. I decided on the 240 because it fit our needs, plenty of room for family, plus a few friends. I didn't see a big enough difference to move up to the 260.

Any of you fellow 240 SD owners use a front bimini? Since I bought the boat at the end of the season last year, I haven't put it on. What does it look like having both back and front biminis up at the same time? Can you drive with them both open? Do they connect to each other? Just curious.

I've got both front and back bimini and only one time have I had both on and open; sitting in front of the house cleaning it.

I call it the covered wagon. Mine zips together to make one huge cover.

Only one time did I take the front on the boat to the lake and didn't use it. Most of it's life has been standing in storage.

It would be great if you have a full camper canvas so you could enclose the whole thing, but it's not real practical around these parts.

Looks like Jim has already summed it up. I assume Jim is talking about the full (Windshield back) camper canvas. Since we slip ours year road really comes in handy during the winter. Was able to go out on the lake when the temps where in the 40 and had the lake all to ourselves.

Thanks for the reply about the front bimini use. It looks like the only use it may get is to keep the sun out while docked.

I do have the camper pgk also, but I like Jim's idea of enclosing the front too using the front bimini.

I have another 240SD question for everyone. Has anyone modified their anchoring system? It seems awkward getting it in and out of the anchor well while balancing on the bow.

You're welcome we aim to please.
I went with a bigger anchor and more chain and rope than MM started with in their standard coast gaurd package. I agree its a pain balancing on the bow :smt100

I "modified" the deck on my 240SD once..............put a nice big gouge in the gelcoat trying to swing the anchor aboard. :smt021

I agree it is a big pain with the door opening backward like that and having to stand on the deck to haul the anchor in. So what I tried to do was anchor at the rear of the boat and just leave the front anchor in the anchor locker. I just kept a second anchor and rope in the ski locker and would use that instead of the front one. I just tied it off to one of the rear cleats. You can stand on the swim platform to reel in it and then just hose it down with your rear sprayer before putting it back in the locker.

That sounds like a good option. Does anchoring at the rear of the boat hold as well as the front?

This has come up before and I'm always a little surprised. I don't think it's that bad standing at the bow, even retrieving the anchor. Maybe I've just become accustomed to it.

One thing I have started doing (always learning) is to NOT always try to thrown the anchor out when setting it. It seems to be one of the best ways to have bad things happen, yet is the way 99% of trailer boaters do it. I've started dropping anchor and then drifting back to set it, just like the big ones.

Retrieving can be a PITA, especially when you're about the only one that usually gets an anchor set, out of as many as 10 boats. I get frustrated having friends come up and think that tieing off first, then tossing an anchor over their bow is going to help. Most of the time they think their helping, until it comes time to leave and they lift their dangling anchor that's no where near the bottom while I'm trying to get mine up from 6' under the bottom after setting it with 48k lbs of boats. :smt043

Holding is the same front or back, the question is how big is seas ie: Don't want the big waves coming in over the stern.

Hey SeaRay Jim I'm still looking for the windless option for the 240SD. :smt043

Wouldn't that be cool????

I hate to say it but, I really gave it some thought on how one could be installed. Never did found a way to do.

Just bolt it right to the top of the anchor door...............don't try to hide it. It's not everyday you see a Windlass on a 240SD anyway.

Ye, I know the dealer keep saying I was turning her into a cruiser  What with the shore power, etc options.
