240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

After sitting in the new ones, I personally find they are not as comfortable as the one that is in my 2002 240SD.

Yes Dave that was my feelings also. I thought new seat looked neat, but felt bad. :smt021 Maybe SeaRay is listening

Brandnewtoboating "called "european" (all white)" looks great did not even know it was an option.

Personaly I've not had any yet :smt038 , but I've heard other people have had some hair line cracks in the jelcoat that has been fixed by the dealer. Seems to be an easy fix and is common with jelcoat. Make sure you put it on your punch list for your dealer. Have you had it back to them yet for any other issues? I found a screw that was just sticking out under the rub rail and they fixed it, could not even tell it had been fixed when they got done. They did a great job.

luckily the marina where i rack the boat is also the searay dealer. I plan on going out on Sunday (the camper canvas should be installed) so we'll start the punch list then. I plan on having them do the repairs just before i put her up for the season which will be around Thanksgiving. I can already feel the withdrawn pains...

Can they rack your boat with the camper top on it? I thought you had to have your top down if you dry rack the boat  Let us know how your punch list goes.

no, they have different height racks. I love the top, it was about 45-50 degrees and we had to unzip the windows because we were so hot. I didn't get to the punch list (little guy started getting an ear ache) but I would think we'll get out again this week. I'm starting to wonder if I can get away with not winterizing and use it year round.

Cool, I did not know that. We don't have any dry racks in the area yet. Was looking at one on the TN river and they could not rack boat with radar arches, or tops up, etc. Yes the top works great and have had to do unzipping thing also. Year road boating is Great  Having the lake all to our-self is priceless :smt038

If you are rack stored I would not chance it unless you have a power source to plug in a Bilge Heater. My 240SD is also rack stored inside a building and our climate is a bit warmer than yours down here in Charlotte. I can assure you there have been several folks who rack store in our building that decided to skip winterizing and they found out the hard way (with cracked blocks) that you must winterize. I have been able to wait until late November or early December to winterize some years but things get very "iffy" after that. My 260DA is wet slipped and I plan to use that year round but I also have a bilge heater and a cabin heater to prevent things from freezing up.

wow, great information. I guess I'llhave to bite the bullet and winterize. I hope to get a few more weekends in though. I guess I'm back to the original plan of putting it up after Thanksgiving. I'm on a waiting list for a covered slip, I'll look into getting a heater once I get it.

Thanks

Hey guys we need to find some more Sundeck :smt100 We are getting overrun by bow-riders.

Whohoo!.......a Sundeck thread! Need to pay closer attention :smt015

Brandnewtoboating made a comment about a few stress fractures in his gelcoat. Misery loves company.....we've got 'em too. Most of the time the dealer can have his gelcoat guy dremel it out & patch the area well enough you'd never know it was there & that's usually the end of it.

We took delivery of our boat in March '05 & it had a couple cracks then. Not to worry said the sales guy....they'll fix it like new...and they have...several times. We've had our boat back to the dealership 4 times. Each time it was there they'd patch anywhere from 6 to 12 different cracks. Ours keep coming back. Started with a few around the windshield & bimini supports. We have no fewer than 13 cracks in different areas on the boat right now. Most are around the windshield & bimini supports, but now they have spread to the cooler lid in the bow as well as on the helm :smt009

Searay has recalled our boat & promised to "do whatever it takes" to get the problem fixed. That could be anything from grinding down the upper deck, fixing the fiberglass underneath & re-gelcoating or just replace the entire upper deck altogether. We're supposed deliver it to the plant in Tellico around the 1st of Feb. I'll let you know how it goes.......Scott

Edit: btw Chuck.......what did they charge you to install the shore power?

Glad to hear they are taking care of it. I had a problem on the underside of swim platform and MM took care of it last time I was having some service done on it.

I'm thinking it was around 1000 for the shore power setup, but don't quote me on it. May have been more, I had them doing some other things at the same time before I took delivery. I'll have to go back and check the invoice if you need.

Hey you guys need to add your Sundecks to the Virtual Marina. We need to keep them BRs in check  :smt043  Plus we all like to look at pictures of good looking boats

Wow, a sing of life over here!!

BTW, boat manufacture of all kinds endure these gel-coat crack issues. Honestly, it becomes an issue only when a customer demands they be addressed. More times than not, they go accepted as part of what boats do. I know my 2000 has some and I'm not worried about it. But I know there are brand new ones that have much worse issues than mine.

My biggest pet peeve is fasteners coming loose. Nothing serious, just things to bug the hell out of an anal owner like me but for 6 years would be expected.

Hey Jim..............good to see you back on the board!

And Chuck, I am still a member of the 240SD crowd since I still have my 2002 (still for sale). I am itching to get the thing back out on the lake at least one more time (hopefully) before it gets sold. :smt038

Hey Jim Glad to see you we need more Sundecks. Sure would like to see the pics of your super 240 again.

Hey Dave as I said in the other post I thought you had sold it already, did not see it in your sign anymore. Even when you do sell it you are always part of the 240SDers. You have given some great info on it and I know there is more too comes as needed

I've been thinking about our past outings and we did a lot of short trip hopping to beaches this summer...(our favorite beach is only about 1 mile from our dock) and a lot of times (most times) the engine temp doesn't get above 110 or so. Should I be taking 'My Oxygen' out and running her till she gets nice and warm during these days? and should it be done everytime?

Not sure, but I may be from the old school, MS Judy doesn't even come out of the slip until shes warmed up for 5 or 10 Mins. Then slow idle out past the no wake zone she is good and warmed up. I'll have to check but it seem to me I'm running her in the 150+ range most of the time after that. I'll look closer next time and make sure and let you know. 110 sure sounds low to me? May also want to post the question in the engine section to see if you get more hits about it.

Good idea about posting in the engine section Chuck..Well that is about our routine too... 5 minutes of warm up.. about 1/4 mile no wake then about 3500 rpm to the beach. I remember on the old site there was this dicussion but it was before we purchased our 240, so maybe come spring it will be time to revive it.
