Greetings from a newbie. I have a 2005 240 Sundeck that I would like to have some better protection from the weather while cruising. Does anyone have any comments + or - on side curtains and enclosures? Have looked at Great Lakes Boat Tops. Thanks!

Chuck1 can tell you all about the camper enclosure and how to turn you sundeck into a dancer. I'm sure he pipe in soon.

You can get the enclosures from Sea Ray; you'll have to either DIY or pay someone to install the snaps so they match up with your cockpit cover snaps. Make sure your bimini already has the zippers sewn in around the edges, otherwise that'll need to be done, as well.

Another very good option is to have a local canvas maker do it for you - ask for a better "mil" or quality of clear vinyl (eisenglass). The thicker it is, the better the optical clarity is.

Gary I bought the camping enclosure with our '05 when I bought the boat. Although we don't use it as much as I would have thought it has come in handy in the fall & those drizzly days when you still want to get on the water.
Only negative I have is it's not easily installed after you are on the water so if we think we're going to need it it's put on at the ramp. Scott

Gary,
I think based on the age of your boat you can purchase it directly from the manufacture (Great Lakes Boat Top Company) www.greatlakesboattop.com . I think your boat has to be a couple years old before they can sell it directly to you. Give them a call 423-884-6761 and make sure. Like "Lazy Daze" said you will have to have somebody to install the snaps.
Scott,
The secret is to attach the front first while you have the back poles extended then attach the side curtains, pull the back poles back down tight. Only takes a couple minutes on the water.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip Chuck......I'll pass it along to Kim as I'm not allowed to make any suggestions while she is putting it up......:smt043

Really? My wife just loves it when I explain to her an easier way to do things! :smt014

Here's another tip for getting that rubber gasket into the groove: Wipe the rubber down (liberally, but not dripping) with a vinyl cleaner/conditioner - any brand will do. It will pop in much easier and also allow you to slide the curtain within the track for adjustments.

Big ditto.:smt043:lol: Heck I thought it was just Judy that felt that way. Thank god they don't read this or we will be in the dog house for weeks.

Luckily the newer sundecks don't have to deal with the groove we've got snaps on the windshield and sides.

LOL - you're right! And I just posted (about 2 hours ago, none the less) in a thread about the change over to snaps being somewhere around 2002.

I was once told that a person's memory is the first thing to go... but I'm not sure if I'm remembering that correctly.........
