I am trying to figure out better propping for our 240 Sundeck with 5.0MPI and 2.20 Bravo III. We are always boating very light. Two adults, one 4 year old and only light gear. Ours is currently propped with a 22 pitch set and I have seen the 240SD with 5.0 proped with 22, 24 and 26 pitch props.

What props do you run on your 240SD and have you repropped.

My objective is to get a bit more speed at same RPM.

Help appreciated!

5200 RPM for that motor I believe is a little high. You could increase your pitch a little, which would give you a little more top end speed, but sacrifice a little hole shot. I believe the rule of thumb is 1" increase in pitch will decrease WOT RPM by about 200. Since you are running a 22", you could go to a 24" and your new WOT rpm should be about 4800.

Have you had the boat since new? With 5200RPM's, I'm wondering if a previous owner downsized his props for watersports. You could easily go to 24's. I'd be hesitant to go to 26's w/o trying it, first, although that should still keep your engine within it Max operating specs. There will be a marked difference in hole shot from 22's to 26's, although that may just mean you use the tabs more. But, again, it'd be wise to try a set of 26's before purchasing. Some prop shops will have a "try before you buy it" program.

Mercruiser 5.0MPI rev range is 4600 to 5000. Running 5200 rpm WOT now I thought I'd try a set of uncupped 26 pitch props. If you look at Boattest.com they tested the 240 SD with a 5.0 with 26 pitch props and a 240SD with 350MAG and 24 pitch props. The speed measurements show it. Acceleration times do not differ a lot.
