240 SD Won't Start

I have a 2003 240 SD that I recently bought used. When cold the engine starts fine. Two weeks ago after being on the water for sometime with multiple starts and stops, the engine would not start. When I turned the key nothing happened at all. No turn over, no starter click, nothing. All other accessories worked fine so no problem with battery power. After troubleshooting for some time, the ignition switch itself broke and I ended up being towed.

The next week I replaced the ignition switch and took the boat out again. Again after running normally and starting and stopping several times, the boat would not start. Same symptoms. Turn the key and nothing. The only difference this time was after a couple more trys the engine cranked and started.

I thought maybe the deadman's switch or the neutral cut out was the problem but this last time I did not mess with them and the boat started.

I'm thinking that maybe there is a grounding problem but I'm at a loss.

Any thoughts or help is much appreciated.

Found what I think you're talking about. It was round and had 5 'split post' style connectors so I spread a little and reattached. Only a day on the water will tell if that was it or not (oh, darn). I'll let you know.

Thanks,
Brian
