230 Sundancer is now up on Sea Ray's web site

It is the almost identical boat to the 240 DA same specs just different bells and whistles. This is probably Sea Rays way of breaking into ODD numbers as the new 250 is the old 260 and so on. I have the same boat just different layout. It is not a cuddy. I had a Crownline cuddy WAY different (you crawl in not walk). It is rather small but it is just fine for me the wife and the dog for extended stays of 3-4 nights.

Here is the link http://www.searay.com/2009_sea_ray_sport_cruisers_230_sundancer.asp

The 230DA is basically the 240 with a different cockpit layout from what I can tell. I suppose this means that the 240DA the way it currently exists will be dropped from the line-up.

The port layout is a huge improvement. I would have kept the bench seat for the captains chair and the cooler on the floor isn't very good. Maybe it's an option for the sink and better seat. Otherwise it's a lot of wasted space.

Hi... new to the site and Sea Ray ownership as we are just in the process of purchasing a 2009 240 Sundancer. Yes, I got the bug at the Seattle Boat Show. Great prices (because they are closing out the line???)

I did notice from the specifications that the deadrise is 18 degrees on the 230 as opposed to 21 degrees on the 240. Do you think this will much affect between the two hulls?

Funny how the sales team never mentioned the 230 or its layout. I wasn't sure about the cockpit "seats" instead of an area to recline. I hope we like it.

Welcome!

We have a 240 (essentially identical to yours on order) and we really like the cockpit seats. Obviously, it's all in how you use your boat. Personally, I'm not sure about the port seat layout in the "new" 230. If two people try to sit there the aft person is going to have feet in their lap! Also, if you've ever tried to sit in that position (rear facing long seat) while underway you're going to slide down flat!

Anyway, our 240 has an 18deg. deadrise and I'm not sure how a 21deg. would perform. I think the 18 would get on plane a little faster but I don't have any data to back that up.

Give us an update when you get in the water.

Enjoy!:smt001

240DA,

Thanks.... good feedback on the seats. I never thought along those lines. Saturday is the test run and I am hoping for sun (well, at least not rain as I don't want the boat to get wet) here in Seattle.
I am excited to get going but moving from a Catalina 34 sailboat to this is a big change.

Thanks
DR

I completely agree! Our 240 is the same way and I've never understood that; how much could it possibly cost to have them made of the same material!?:smt009

It has the 5.0 L FWC w/Bravo III and the Seacor protection becasue it will sit in salt water. Think this will push it faster than the 6 knots of my last boat?

Good thing your used to laying the rubrails down to the water also............

Take a good long test drive before signing off. One of the biggest complaints of 240-260's is the leaning while underway and constant use of the tabs. SB

Islandhopper00

At least that is what all the literature says...21 degrees. I guess I have to accept it as I am just learning all this lingo and what it really means. With my C34, I had to learn (and quickly) about prop-walk.. boy was that fun the first time it tried to leave my slip!

When I got our boat I fought this continually until I started trimming the engine up. It doesn't take alot, maybe 3-4 degrees and then level off from there with the trim tabs, it will make you life easier.

The 2006 240 has an 18 deg deadrise; I've measured ours and can confirm that. On the newer ones SeaRay lists them as 21 deg. I must admit it is hard to believe they would have made a new hull mold but who knows.

Now they list the "new" 230 as 18 deg. so my guess is that it is the exact same mold as the 2006 240. The exterior of the boat appears the same as the 240.

Port side layout is a improvement. The lounge is better than 2 seats.
The cooler behind the driver..what is that?? What a waste! my.02, of course!
