First time poster. I have been around boats my whole life and want to get our growing family a new Sea Ray boat. I have been to our local sea ray dealer and fell in love with a 210 select for the last year. But now, they have some hold-over 2007 230 selects with the 350Mag and Bravo 3. Their first offer will be around $40K, I am guessing. Is this a good deal on a 2 year old NEW boat?? The boat show special in our area was an 2008 230 with 5 litre motor B3 for $40K sticker price. I would like to wait til next year (2010) to get a boat, but if this is a great deal I might jump on it now.
Options:
Get 2009 or 10 Sea Ray 210 with 350 & B3 for $45K+ next year
or
Get 2007 New Sea Ray 230 with same options for $40K or less now??

We live in Minnesota, would be boating in our 10,000 lakes, some small, some big.

What are your thoughts??

Yes,
'07 230 w/ the 5.7 for 40K would be a great deal if it includes a tower.. W/ out the tower I would pay 35K...
My '07 that I bought in '08 was 48K but was loaded out w/ galv trailer. I would steer clear from the 5.0 models unless they give them away. Not enough engine in my opinion unless you boat w/ less than 3 people all the time.

Good luck, great boat you wont be dissapointed....

??? my 2003 220 with 5.0 does great with a load. Had 2 families of 5 on board tubing/skiing without a hitch. Have had me plus my son and several his large friends (all 220+ pounds) without issues as well. Aren't the two basically the same boat? Maybe 50-100 lbs difference in weight.

Yes, I was thinking with 210 or 230, I would want the 350. I am a horse power guy, plus at 6'5''. If I want to do any skiing or what not, I want the power.
The price doesn't include a tower, which I don't need. Their offer was $39,500 with trailer. I know they want to move this boat, they have another just like it from 2007 yet. Is 35K a good deal or is there more to be had with a two year old boat?

tim,
we are currently looking pretty hard at a NEW 2007 210 Select from our local Sea Ray Dealer. Not sure if it helps at all but it is pretty loaded with the 350 MAG MPI BR3, the tower with bimini and wakeboard racks, beach boarding ladder, bow filler cushions and the cockpit ocver w/tonneau cover and trailer. They are asking $33,995 for it. If we decide to go for it, we won't be paying full price. But I thought maybe the details would help you.

Does the 2007 230 have any hours on it?

The price is in the ballpark (depending on options) I purchased my 2007 230 a year ago. It has a 350 mag bravo III, tower, upgraded sound system, covers, wakeboard racks, corsa through hull, battery charging system, cockpit led lights and probably something I am forgetting. We paid just under 40 out the door.

The economy has changed and boat sales are way down, I would think they are hungry and willing to deal.

Hopes, I have been reading your treads too. This is a new boat, but no tower, which I don't care about, but otherwise about the same options as what you are looking at.

I have never bought a new boat before and am not sure what is a good deal. I would think they would love to sell a boat that has been on their lot for 2+ years. I would buy it in a heart beat for 30 - 32K. They are a good dealer, I know they have to make money too, but it sounds like there are alot better deals out there...

Before deciding on whether this is a good price or not, I would suggest checking used prices on 2007 models on Boattrader.com or other similar web sites. Essentially you are buying a used boat (even though it is brand new) because it will not be worth more than any of the other used boats that are currently on the market once you purchase it.

I also disagree with the previous post. Why buy used in this market when prices are so low. The boat is new, so you know that it is in good shape and taken care of. Your warranty will also start new from date of purchase.

Mike

Let me clarify my earlier post. I didn't imply he should buy used. I said to check used prices for 2007 models so you know what to pay for the new one recognizing that as soon as you hook up that trailer and leave the dealer's lot with your brand new 2007 it is probably not worth much more than a lightly used 2007 on the open market.

Here's several used ones on Boat Trader http://www.boattrader.com/search-re...d-select/More-all/Model-230/Sort-Length:DESC/

Thanks for the replies!! So nobody thinks I am crazy thinking about offering them 32K on a 2 year old (NEW) boat. I looked up a new 2009 with the same options, it would MSRP around $61K. Which I am guessing that would run around $45K cash... In which case I would have a brand new year, with the colors I want...
At 32K, that would be a 48% discount off a new sticker price... At worst they would say no and I wait til next spring when the kids are alittle older...
This is the option list on this model...

2007 Sea Ray 230 Select
350 Mag MPI 300HP
Bravo 3
Bimini Top
Snap Carpet
Snap Bow/Cockpit Cover
Fire Suppression System
Docking Lights
2 Buckets Layout with Motorbox
Shorelandr Tand Trailer

Now I have found the MSRP on a 2007 230 Select with these options is $52K from the Sea Ray site. That means the $39.5K they want to sell it for is only 25% off MSRP. A 40% of MSRP would be more like $31K.
I also looked up the NADA value for a used 2007 230 and that is around $27K for a used 2007. I am thinking $1-2K more because it is 0 hours.
Am I following the correct logic?

I'd say you're thinking correctly, maybe more than 40% off Nada at this point. (or have them do impeller and other maint like others have suggested)
