Does anyone have a pic. of the bow filler cushion for their 220 Sundeck? I would really like to have one of these for my boat however my local Searay dealer quoted me $750. I don't understand this as the price online is only $350 if you add it as a factory installed option.

I work in the automotive trim business and am going to have one of my Engineers develop this cushion for me.

If anyone else is interested in having one made, PM me and I will let you know the price.

Thanks,

Tim.

I will try to take some pictures this weekend. There are 2 main parts. There are boards that support the cushions and the cushions. The cushions fold in half so that they can fit in the bow seats. If I was to make one I would use a center support for the boards and I would have it extend further into the boat so that you could sleep on it.

It maybe easier to see one at a dealer. I wonder how much they would sell the replacement cushions for? The support boards would be easy to make. You are welcome to come to Grand Haven to see mine. I hope to be boating this Sunday.

Tim,
That is just crazy $750:smt021
If your 220SD is any thing like the 240SD you should have a lip under your bow seats. On the 240SD you have 3 filler boards that rest on the lips and lock in place when all 3 boards are installed. You then have a cushion that goes on top of the boards. I'm sure somebody can post some pictures. Next time I'm at the boat I'll try and take some if I remember.

My thoughts exactly! If I take the time to make one, I will extend the design for sleeping. I would love to go to Grand Haven to see you, but my wife is on call all weekend (must be within 1/2 hour from Detroit). Any pic's you take would be very much appreciated.

I couldn't believe the price myself! As I said, it's a ~$350 option from the factory. I would hope that it would be the same or less from a dealer!

Now that I think about it. Maybe the parts are $350 and its $400 of labor for the dealer to install. :smt101 Its a little difficult to get the cushions to fit in the bow seat. I'll take some pictures.

Believe it or not, the cushion itself is $290 and the board is $450 (all + tax). Now that I know that info., I am leaning towards buying the cushion and making the boards.

If someone could please take some detailed pic's of the board and the cushion I would be very greatful! Thanks!

I still don't believe the price. But I agree that I would buy the cushion and make the board. Maybe check another dealer for a price. Here is a video that kind of shows how the board works.

I have 3 boards. Each just wide enough so that they will fit under the bow seat. They sort of lock together but it’s not much of a lock. I think the idea of the lock is to increase the strength and to spread the weight. If I was to do this I would take a large piece of card board and trace the shape of the opening. Then cut this piece into the 3 pieces to use as a template. I would put a lip under 2 of the pieces to support the middle. As you can see in the video is that eventually the boards will misshape and will no longer stay in place. That’s why I think you could put a folding leg underneath the boards to support the middle. There is a big warning letter on the boards telling you not to stand on the boards directly without the cushion. The boards will give way and calls will be made to a lawyer. :smt021 I would use marine grade plywood for the boards.

I am interested in having a board set made for my 1999 210 Sundeck. I have the cushion but the boart set is cracked.

That's a good idea that they made it out of starboard. Get it as wet as you want and it will hold up. If I had to guess, that much starboard in an uncut sheet should run about $150-$200.

You can route it and flame polish the edges but take your time cutting it out with a jigsaw. Don't go too fast.

You can also see the factory drill and countersunk the screw holes for the underlying lips.

Good luck and let's see when you're done.

I have debated on what I need to do for my 1999 210 SD and I have decided to go with a 1/2in thick pressure treated wood and cover it with that spray on bedliner stuff. This will give it a protective covering and make it not look as much like 3 homemade planks. I am going to mount clips on the underside so I can "connect" the 3 slats. I made a template from a big sheet of cardboard and I will transfer it to the wood and jigsaw it. Sand the edges, then spray on the bedliner and add the clips and it should be good to go. What do you guys think?????????

I think that will work. I would use marine or furniture grade plywood. You can get the furniture grade at Lowes or Home Depot. This stuff is a lot stronger and I wouldn’t worry about the moisture especially since you are going to paint it. I would think about making it a little longer so that my feet wouldn’t hang off the end.

Good Luck – What are you going to do for a cushion?

I already had the cushion. I bought the boat used and the previous owners broke the support boards but the cushions are in mint condition. Do you think the spray on bedliner stuff is a good idea or just wasted money?

damn it sounds pretty easy to make aside from the cushions themselves. I may have to get crackin with the jig saw!

Thanks, you guys have helped alot.

Event though this is an old post it most certainly answered my questions. Great info and great pix! This will be a great project...
