I've heard the saying, buy as big as you can afford. I can afford a 240 but I don't see them for sale very often in the Seattle area. I'm looking to buy a 2010-ish used and there are 3 220s for sale that I can get a good deal on as the season comes to an end.

Will I regret not having a 240 if I get the 220? I've sat and looked at the 220s and it seems big enough although a little cramped in the back area if 4 people are facing each other. It would be mostly my wife and I, sometimes four people but rare we'd need to haul 8. Lots of happy hours (within the rules), water skiing, wakeboarding tubing etc. Wait for a 240 or pull the trigger on a 220? This will be my first boat yet I want this to be my boat for the next ten years. We will keep it on a lift on Lake WA Seattle and use most of the year.

Many thanks

Welcome!

I can tell you this.... I have the 240 and would not want to downsize! In all seriousness, if you plan to hold for 10 years, I would hold for the 240. I can say from experience that you can plan on 2-4 people on the boat but that number usually grows and having a little extra space will help a lot.

Cheers!

Remember the naming convention changed in 2007/2008 and essentially a 200 became a 220, a 220 became a 240, etc. as they started counting the swim platform as part of the length of the boat. I have a legacy 220 (pretty much the same length as the later 240) and I can't imagine going smaller if you want to have 8 people in the boat comfortably.

I also have an older 220. Great size for my wife and I and three kids, and a big-ass smelly dog. Good luck!

I'm a still very wet behind the ears boater, but I'll chime in.

I went with a 220 as I didn't want a heavier boat to tow or pay more at every fill up for the bigger tank.

As you won't be towing, those aren't factors for you.

After having my first boat for 1 week, today, I wouldn't hesitate on a 240 OB.

That said, I love my new 220 OB.

I also have a legacy 220 and I'm very happy with it. My brother in law has a legacy 240 and he is happy with that. I have 4 to 6 people on a lot with no problems. The only thing I would change is a little more room in the head. We both keep them on 6000 lb Hewitt lifts that we were told were way under rated. I haven't had a problem with mine but he has had several small issues with his. I personally would go with what I thought was the best deal. If I ended up with a 220 and found out I didnt like it I would at least be on the water while I looked for a good deal on a 240.

We had an 06 240 so I'm kind of biased but I'd buy the biggest you can for the type of boating you want to do. 10 years is a long time, kids grow, numbers of friends grow. The 240 handles rough water well, lots of storage and as mentioned, a larger head ( which the females appreciated)... I thought the 240 would be my last boat when I brought her home new. Well that lasted about 3 years as our boating style changed. but I'll have another 240 one of these days. We loved that boat for our lake.

I have one of the newer "short" 240's I had to order it but the dealer had a 220 he was pushing. SOOO glad I went with the 240. A 220 just felt too tight. Also went with the 5.7 instead of the 5.0. I definitely made the right decision for our family of four.

We have an 05 Sundeck 240, which is ideal for how we use the boat...we rarely go out with just the two of us, and like to bring friends, so bigger was better. The newer sundecks look so cramped, and that loss of space aft does not appeal to me.

I have an older 240 with a wife and 2 kids I couldn't imagine anything smaller. Another family of four comes along and there isn't much room left. Bow full, stern full but still enough umph to pull the tubes. Love my 240. I'd wait, the deals will be around for a while. There will also be an increase in inventory once spring comes around but prices won't be as negotiable.

Thanks everyone. We pulled the trigger on a 2010 220 with 103 hours for 32k. Has wakeboard rack, 350 engine, we got a great deal. Its just my wife and I so the 220 is ok thus far. The boat is AMAZING. We had some wind and small waves our first night out and it drives like a bigger boat. Not that i really know bc this is my first boat boat. i know this thing is awesome!

I have had 3 240's... It is without a doubt the best boat for the money in terms of people capacity, speed and overall layout.. You need the 350MAG to really appreciate it.

I have a 2010 260 Sundeck now and somehow they made the 240 better. I would put it on the list to look at as well.
