220 DA thread

Hi Everyone
It's January 3, 2016 and I just joined this forum. I only have a bimini top and I'm looking for a full cover for my 1991 Sea Ray 220 DA that I can use in foul weather when underway. Does anyone have a full camper cover for sale or know a good canvas company to make one. I checked out GreatLakesCanvas.com but they only go back to 2004. I'm grateful for all the useful posts on here. Thanks ahead of time for any help.

Just read your post,,,, and wondering if you found someone or a manufacturer for a camper top......I don't know of your location but we do have a good manufacturer of tops custom made to your wishes here in the area where i live... if you wish email me at chymer@csolve.net

I'm new to the forum, relatively new to my 1989 220DA, not new to boats. Having a difficult time trying to decide how to mount a kicker bracket on my boat for salmon trolling. Do I go below the swimstep somehow? Do I mount on top of the swimstep and get a long shaft kicker? What is the best bracket and mounting method to get a kicker on this thing. It appears that it might have to be a custom job by yours truely. Any advice?

I think the swim step is too high for a traditional swim step mount. I have seen two examples that I think would work.

The first and one I think I'm going to go with is the Panther 55-0030 with a long shaft outboard. I'm not 100% on this option yet, but its looking like a reasonable one.

The second that I have seen work is the Adventure Marine 4100 bracket, mounted under the swimstep. This seems to work well, but I have some thru hulls in the way for transducers and things, so I am probably going to go with the swimstep option if I think it'll accomodate my longshaft motor appropriately.

Let me know if you come up with something different. I've been working on this myself.

I'm trying to figure out how to upload pics, but I performed the installation I mentioned with some huge 1/2" bolts and a galvanized backing inside the swim step. I need to lower the bracket another 2" but I think it should work great then. Its a LITTLE too high right now and cavitates with the small motor. It still pushes the boat about 3mph or so on the gps. I hope it works a little better when I get it another 2" into the water and avoid cavitation concerns.

Not the prettiest thing and I need to clean up a little, but its stout as heck. Overall I'm happy with it.

I bought my friends 1989 220 a month ago.

1. Where do you store the large table when not in use? The table that forms the base of the v berth inside the cabin.

2. Blower tubing is just laying in engine area how are the hoses routed? There is one on each side of the engine.

3. Boat does not have a depth finder.. I want to glue a transducer in front of the engine on the starboard side (there was a transducer there at one point the fell off).
I would like to see picture's if any one has done this.

4. I am looking for a plumbing diagram. This boat has the waste pump and tank but it is not hooked up. It currently has a porta potti.

5. I also need a new SS prop. The current one is chipped. I want one that is economical; Top end speed is not so important as getting on a plane at a lower RPM.

6. There is an switch labeled "Accessories" on the dash all the way to starbord. What is it for?

7. I got a puddle of water in the cabin as far foward on the shelf ( it rained heavy thus morning) . I don't have an anchor locker. The cabin top us dry in front of the hatch. Any ideas where the water may be coming.

More questions to follow.

Thanks
Michael

Wow...u did a lot of improvements on that. I was just given a 1990 220da and need the interior upholstery yourself as well as the rear bench raised. Where did you find the upholstery or did you re skin everything.
Thanks Ben

Hi Steve, what time of toilet set up did you install. I noticed buttons on the side of the sink vanity

I saw a 1989 220 DA in a sale lot on a military base today. Just curious as to what engine/drive these have. Looks like an Alpha drive but I can't be sure. Usually they have a sign on them with all the relevant data but none on this one. I looked up the owners manual but it has nothing about the engines or drives.

Mine had a Merc 5.7 V8 in it.

Thanks. What drive does it have?

Thanks. I wish the MC-1 drive on my SRV190 looked as good as this one. However it still works after 48 years, I'm going to give it a cleanup and a touch up paint job if the rain ever stops. If it lasts through this year, next spring I'm going to give it a rebuild and have it stripped and completely repainted. Anyway, this 220da looks in really good shape but I'd have to buy a new tow vehicle as well and the Admiral isn't on board with it so I guess I'll let it pass.

220DA is a great boat.. Easy to haul, plenty of room and easy to maneuver. Fuel usage isn't near as bad as it's larger cruiser models. I really have no complaints about ours. I'm redoing everything on ours just to make sure it last us many more years. We had been looking at bigger Sea Rays and after testing 27-34 footers, we made the choice of keeping the 220. We tend to use our 220 during the early spring and fall, during the summer we use our pontoon.
Hi, what did you use for a toilet. I have a porta potty with a pumpout discharge hose. Would like to do something better.
Thanks

I guess to this thread is dead now because no 220s are still floating but my "new" 1991. Too bad shes old but hardly used 135 hours on the engine

Hi Nelson.

I have a 1989 220DA that's been in the driveway for a few years and am getting ready to reupholster/clean/restore it. Do you know of any good threads showing a detailed restore with pics/techniques used? I'm definitely a 'weekend warrior' and have forgotten a lot of the research I did before so any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a 1989 220CC with a 5.7 and Alpha One Gen 1. It’s not a DA, but just a stripped down version. I still run it regularly. Great boat.
