220 DA thread

Hi all, just joined this forum. We are picking up our 1990 220 DA in the morning. This is our first boat, my wife and I are as excited as if it was our first child. I will post some pics after she gets here safely, and I come back to reality.

Cc350, can I ask where you purchased your aft Bimini top from? I just purchased an '89 220 a few weeks ago and it only came with the canopy which attaches to the windshield and the camper setup.

Ah ok. I've only had the boat a couple of weeks and haven't had time to play around with the camper top yet. I'll have to play around with it this weekend.

Thanks..

We finally got our boat in the water on Saturday. Picked her up on Friday the 13th... ( I will never purchase anything on a Friday the 13th again) Anyway...that's another story. We took her out on the lake yesterday and we were pleased with the performance and handling. Spent a few hours today cleaning and will give it a good run this week.

Here's a pic...I hope. I'm not the best at tech stuff.

Morning all.. Can anyone tell me if an '89 220da has any sort of gauge for the waste water tank which shows how full it is?

hi CC350, noticed from your pic on your post that you have a swim platform on your boat,,, we are seriiously considering installing a platform on our 1989 220... it would be nice to hear some of your comments on the platform and maybe answer some concerns we might have,,, my email is chymer@csolve.net thanks so much

Swimplatforms.com is the make. Must say it's one of the best things we like. Tailgating on the lake. Clean fit doesn't touch the water when cruising or planing, does add some weight to the back of boat so takes an extra second or two to plane.

I just drained my fresh water tank and purified it with bleach and water. After I drained the tank, I added some vinegar and water to get the bleach smell out of the water. While cleaning the aft cabin, I noticed water was leaking on the port side. The bottom of the wall fabric and cushions were wet. I'm going to look for the leak today. does anyone have an idea where the leak may be?

Thank You CC350 for the feedback on the swim platform. To all that may have a 1989 Sea Ray 220 DA, I'm kinda on a fact finding mission and looking for any wiring diagrams for this boat and also the fresh water system for this boat which has cuddy sink, washroom sink & shower, hot water tank and aft shower. Thanks so much for any help,, just trying to learn more about our boat with little information supplied from previous owner.

I've got a winterizing question for 220 owners. This is my first boat and I'm not 100% what the best approach would be as far as keeping my batteries charged. The boat will be kept in it's slip all winter and will therefore need power to run the bilge pump so I'm going to need to keep the batteries charged up. Would keeping the shore power connected all winter be the best approach? Also, my slip only has 15 amp outlets so I'm going to be purchasing this pigtail adapter http://www.overtons.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Marinco-Pigtail-Adapter-30/15-Amps-125V&i=82490&r=view&from=grid Any concerns with this approach or general advice I should consider?

Thanks!

Sounds like a good way to go, to keep the shore power powering the charger. I would check it every once in a while to be sure the shore power or boat breaker hasn't tripped. At my marina, sometimes during storm activity, the shore power breaker trips, and has to be manually reset at my slip receptacle. The other option is to get a good sized solar panel. Don't know if you have a Harbor Freight store near you, but if you do check out their reasonably priced solar setups.

Thanks for the feedback Danny. I've only owned the boat since Labor Day and haven't plugged it into shore power yet (no pigtail yet) so I wasn't entirely sure if what I had planned was a proper solution. I've read the manually but just wasn't super clear on how the shore power charged the batteries. The breaker you are referring to is the "Converter" breaker?

Yes, if anything goes wrong, such as a power surge, a breaker might trip. You will have to monitor the breaker that's mounted to the shore power line, provided by the marina, and the breaker on the power panel for the converter (charger). I would be nervous leaving the boat for over a week without checking it. Of course, 10 years from now I'm sure there will be a very inexpensive method of being alerted by cell phone when something goes wrong while you are away from the boat. You could probably do it now, if you were able to connect to a wifi hotspot, but it could get expensive and you would have to bring in the geek squad to set it up!

I live 15 minutes from the slip so periodically swinging by to check on it isn't a problem.. Cheers..

BTW , you should add your state to your location. I just Googled Beaver Lake and all that I came up with were north enough to freeze in a cold winter. You have bubble system where you are? Or are you outside of the US?
