I bought a 1999 Express Cruiser this past summer as a project boat. All the cushions and seats and vinyl had been slashed for insurance fraud. The boat had been sitting out in the rain/snow/sun for probably 10 years. However, aside from the slashes, the vinyl itself was very thick and in great condition. Easy to clean, no rub marks or holes anywhere aside from the vandalism damage. Obviously very high quality vinyl.

I took the seats to an upholsterer and wanted to do a custom job in purple/white. I chose Seabrook vinyl because the sample card says it's OEM for Sea Ray. However, this stuff is not nearly as thick as what was on the seats from the factory. There's no way it's the same stuff. The upholsterer did a really crappy job, left off a lot of the welting, misaligned a lot of stuff, was supposed to fix it and it sat at his shop for months while I waited and I finally went back to get a full refund and take it elsewhere. While it's been sitting there, it already has holes and rub through marks in the vinyl. I'm not happy at all with the quality of the vinyl (let alone the poor job they did).

So now, with my full refund, I intend to take them to a highly recommended Amish upholsterer and have them done right. I would like to use a vinyl of the same quality as the OEM vinyl. Can anyone tell me what the OEM vinyl was or what the highest quality vinyl brand is? Thanks.
