210 Select BR thread - Questions and Answers

I think all of the questions you asked were answered... if not, ask again. IN MY OPINION, I would take the boat if it were under 30,000. Also, I would have ALL of the fluids (oil, drive motor, etc.) changed as part of the deal. After all, it has been sitting for 2 years. I don't know if they break down over time or get acidic, but I would not chance it. This would be under $50 dealer's cost, I'm sure.

You do have some nice upgrades from mine: tower, B3 outdrive, 350 MAG. I think the price is pretty good, but as I said, I'd get it down some more. Others may agree or disagree. I did a lot of research, but, in the end, I've only bought one boat. I would not let the dealer pressure me (learned that lesson long ago). The "boat show prices" just show you what they will take. Use it as a starting point. After all, the boat has been sitting for 2 years for some reason. Go over the boat with a fine toothed comb and look for anything that may indicate why. It may have been price alone or it may have been something else. You can always tell them what they had if for at the boat show when you first saw it. If they won't go back to that price, walk. Also, drive THAT boat if you are interested in it. Don't drive another similar boat that happens to be in the water or any other reason. Any reputable dealer will put the boat you want (or the two you are deciding between) in the water for you to drive. Hope this helps some.

I'm REALLY curious as to why a 2007 is leftover in the showroom. Actually, he had to drive to another location to get it for us. But still.

Any suggestions on how to handle the fact that we won't be purchasing today (because we are going to sea trial another boat next weekend) but still be able to keep the boat show pricing until we decide? I'm sure a small refundable deposit might be required.

One last thing, I don't know if it is the norm to leave a deposit or mot. I really don't see why it would be necessary. If you sign a purchase agreement, that should be enough. When I bought mine, I signed the paperwork that day (after all negotiations were complete) and then picked it up after detailing the next week-no money required. As I said above, the boat show price is just a peak at their hand (what they will take). Remember another thing, the industry is hurting right now. Boat sales are down across the country (your specific market may vary) and even Sea Ray has begun to cut back on work force. You have the advantage, not them. Make sure YOU are comfortable with whatever price is set, not the dealer. They are losing money the longer it sits on their lot and you can always go elsewhere to get another boat for the price you want.

matthew, we will be driving that boat this afternoon. He has also put a 2008 210 in the water that has the bench seat and no tower...but more expensive.

My father will be coming with us for the demo and he has been in the marine industry all his life so he is my fine tooth comb. Our surveyor if you will.

We're keeping our fingers crossed that it goes well today. But we also know we don't want to make a decision today. We want to sea trial a Stingray for comparison....or maybe something else. Just like I wouldn't walk into a car dealership drive a car once, and buy it without test driving the competition to see what they have to offer.

Excellent point about the fluids. We will definitely keep that in mind if we end up buying the boat!

You will probably notice a difference in the two. The 2008 is heavier than the 2007. (I forget how much... I think ~300 lbs). Good luck, and just remember, whatever price they'll take today, they'll take in a week. Have fun!

Thanks!

And just so I know, if we set a price today and walk away...do we need to sign a purchase agreement? What if for some strange reason we like the Stingray better and want to go with that?

I know buying a boat is different than buying a car, so I'm in unfamiliar territory.

Oh, and do you know WHY the 2008 210 is heavier than the 2007?

Well we drove it, and we LOVED the ride. It was pretty choppy and the boat handled beautifully. The only thing we don't like is the color. It's boring. Just the pearl with a black stripe. :smt009 Nothing exciting. Basically looks like a white boat. REALLY boring, but obviously we can't fix that. I LOVE how deep the cabin is. To my surprise the wakeboard tower didn't bother me at all. But we will definitely be going with the standard seating. There is so much more room in the cabin.

Anyway, we will see what happens. Next weekend we will be test driving the Stingray!

Now, to figure out if we could just get over the color.:smt009

The Deep V is nice.

If you really want to "spice" up the appearance of the boat look into boat "wraps". They are graphic kits that can be added to any boat. Check out the link below and if you Google "boat wraps" I am sure you will get a lot more.

If you haven't already, try going out to NADA (www.nada.com) and check out the resale value of the boats you are looking at. You can just "make up" a boat with the same features you are looking at on each boat but make the boat a couple of years older. Then compare that price to the price you would pay today. The price difference will give you some idea on the deal you are getting.

I second MattM, it is a buyers market.....

Good Luck

Thanks!

Nope. I know there is some more structurally in the boat (boxes to cover up the battery and trim motor in side engine compartment), but I don't know what else. That may be something to ask the dealer.

As the post above stated, buy some skinz or you can always buy the Sea Ray graphics from the dealer and put them on (or have them do it)... heck, make it the last thing when you decide on the final price. Tell them you will give them $XX,XXX.XX. When they come back with $YY,YYY.YY (and you are willing to pay it), tell them they have a deal IF they will put on the graphic. Look on the Sea Ray website under the parts/owner's manuals and you can even get the part number for the graphics you want.

Anyway, let us know how it goes with the Stingray and what you all decide. I think all of us here already know what your decision will be.

Nope, no pictures of the boat. Sad to say, there wouldn't be much of a WOW factor. It is basically the pearl color (or white) with a black pin stripping on the outside. The inside is pearl (cream really) and has black piping on the engine box and the seats on each side...then the bucket seats have some sort of goldish/bronzish color accents. That is also on the seats up in the bow. Really isn't what we would want AT ALL. :smt089

One nice feature of the pearl/white color hull "IMHO" is that it is a lot easier to keep it looking good than a color hull.

One other thought on the 'just the white' option... depending on how long you plan on keeping the boat..what is in style now may not be when the time comes to sell.

Very true. We were just hoping for a little bit more fun color for our first boat. I checked out the parts manual for the 2007 210 and the color of the accent vinyl pieces inside the boat is Bronze Mist. :smt009

IMHO - With this being your first boat I would stay away from a colored hull... them scratches sure show up on them pretty colored hulls. (Grin)

The hull color doesn't bother me so much as it does my husband who was hoping for something a little bit more fun. I'm not too excited about the Bronze Mist vinyl accents in the cabin. Something we will have to get over if we want the boat I guess.

But the boat, is a SWEET ride!

Here is a question for all of you 210 owners. Does the steering wheel feel sort of "loose" when driving? We noticed that the boat we took out last week felt like the steering wheel was loose, especially when we were in the no wake zone and just put-putting around.

Just curious if anyone else has had that experience or if it is something we should have the service center take a look at if we decide to purchase the boat. OH and I do have a link of a boat that is similar. It is the same color. The only difference is the boat we are looking at has a tower, and it has the standard seating, not the bench.

The major difference, in that boat and the one I think you are looking at is the Drive. The boat you test drove had a Alpha 1. If the other one you are looking at has a Bravo 3, Dual-Prop. It will steer much better at slower speeds...

Tim, actually we did test drive the one with the Bravo 3, which is why we are a little bit concerned, and curious if the steering wheel or something needs to be tightened.

Still look at different options from local Sea Ray dealer. Now I am looking at a 2009 210 Select. A couple of Questions:

1) Is a 5.0 MPI / Bravo 3 a good combo for this size boat? Power wise??

2) How much off a MSRP of $51,000 can I expect for a cash deal, no trade? Anybody buy one recently??

Thanks

I'd shoot for 1/3 off... or so.
