205 Sport thread?

I have a 08' 205 sport with the 5.0L V8 (220hp) and it is blue as well with the wakeboard graphics but no tower yet. I absolutely love it. I did notice that it doesn't look like you have a transom mounted stereo control. That is something that I enjoy having on mine because I don't have to get in and out of the water to change the stereo. That's a nice wakeboard tower. Good luck and nice boat. Gary

Thanks Gary.

I'm not a big fan of Clarion so I didn't want to pay the extra money for the remotes, but they are in the plans for the future. I'd also like to add tower speakers and maybe a sub.

Now if we can just get this rain to clear out I'd be set.

For wakeboarding this year I am going with the watersports ipod case and headphones from H2O products. Everyone I know who uses them loves it and enjoys it better than their tower speakers.

Just a thought, check it out. My wife bought me a whole set up for xmas. Cant wait to try them on the water!

Hey guys,

I just purchased a 2007 205 today, I know this thread is a little old but hopefully someone will check it. Curious, what temp do your 5.0's run at (typically). This one seems a bit high. I did a search and nothing came up for 205's? Thanks guys! Pics coming soon!

If the weather cooperates I could let you know after the weekend. Congrats on the purchase! Got Pics?

Congrats!

The thread may be dated as old, but it is still an active thread, and probably always will be.

I believe mine runs at around 170 or so.

Hey Guys, Thanks for the replies. I live in HI so the water may be :) a bit warmer but she's running around 190/200 seems too high. Ill prob start by checking the impeller and go from there. Yesterday was the initial blessing.

Ok so I took my new (well 2007) 205 out today for a second time just to verify and its def running a little warm or either the thermostat is wrong or gauge is wrong.

The temp gauge is about half way between 170 and 220 which scares me... With that I think I need to start troubleshooting... Have any of you experienced this same thing and if so where did you start.

I would pull the thermostat since its cheap and easy to get to. The warm water does not make a difference.

Could someone point me to a link with pictures / writeup on how to replace the thermostat? Thanks guys!

I don't know if it matters but you might post your engine specs / boat specs in your signature.

I have my mercruiser manual on CD at home I can get you if you don't have one, came w/ the boat when I picked it up last week.

Great idea, Ill look through and check on that. I spoke to the previous owner and he said it always ran b/w 170 and 220.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I replaced the impeller and water pump and shes running fine. We had a great trip to the sandbar, wake boarding, etc.. .PICS to follow.

Question about ethanol fuel, to date my boat has run only non ethanol fuel which is about $3.70/gallon here. Ive been told I can run the regular chevron 87 gas and mix in a fuel stabilizer (such as quick clean) and I shouldn't have any problems. What are your thoughts / suggestions?

Thanks!

So I have a 2008 205 and have been working on upgrading it to peak wakeboarding performance. So far I have purchased 4 Polk tower speakers and a 4 channel clarion amplifier to power them. Now I am trying to figure out what to upgrade next. I've been looking at propellors but would rather get a 4 blade aluminum prop then stainless steel.

For Ballast I will be using the bags they use to hold down pool covers during the winter. I am curious as to how others have their boat weighted and how much weight a boat can handle.

I am also planning on putting some of those undercar neon lights in the sidewalls of the boat. I will post some pics once it is all done but let me know what you think.

Also one cool thing we have done with our boat is hang a hammock chair type thing from the center of the tower to sit on.

Welcome to the forums! I'd love to see some pics of your 205 and the chair... that sounds interesting.

I've never ridden behind a true wakeboard boat but this season I've been more than impressed w/ the stock wake if you will that the boat is putting out. Both sides are nice and putting off a huge wake. I don't have any ballast in the boat except for the beer, wife and her friends.

here are some pics of the hammock chair and speakers. I'll try to upload a pic of the wake with ballast and the amp next chance i get.

Does anyone know if you can ground the amp anywhere else on the boat instead of running directly to the battery? And I think im going to wire the power end of the amp to the spare acc switch so that we can kill power to the tower speakers when we dont need them.

I have yet to use ballast. The sport models put out a great wake without it, as you can see in the youtube vids I posted. We both have the same year and model. Do you have the 5.0 or the 4.3?

The difference between ours and true wakeboats is the drive (i/o vs inboard) which tends to make us work a bit more with trimming to get a wake as opposed to just going (as well as turning off the motor when switching riders), and the amount of weight in the boat. Keep in mind, our boats are rated to 8 people or appx 1200 lbs., where boats such as the Nautique or Malibu take up to appx 2200 lbs or so. They can take on the ballast, it will be tough for you to do so safely. The insurance company doesnt care about our wake. If the boat swamps because of ballast (ie being overweight with ballast and people and gear etc...) you will be SOL.

I have found just having 3 people int he boat, full tank of gas is more than enough to get a brilliant wake.

Always remember, Byerly started doing inverts and inventing tricks off a slalom boat, and the rope off the transom :) Everything we have is a vast improvement.

lax... Wetsounds makes an EQ called the WS-420. Check it out on their website. It has seperate controls for the inboat speakers and the tower speakers which really helps you maximize your steroe as well as dial in the desired sound (highs/mids).

I'm oredering a wakeboard tower in the next week or so and will be adding to my stereo in July when I have my boat back in TX. I am either going with the Wetsounds 3-Some package or a pair of Pro 485s. I will be using the EQ then as well.

Your boat sounds good, keep us posted on your mods.

What tower are you ordering?

Where is the best place to purchase Wetsounds products?? Is there anyplace to get their stuff cheaper than what they have listed on their site?

I'd love to have either the 3-some or the pair of 485's like you mentioned. I've heard a couple boats in our party cove w/ them and they sound amazing.
