My dealer threw a different boat at me today that includes a premium stereo upgrade but I can't seem to find everything it includes. The SeaRay site lists the following:

Premier Upgrade w/Amplifier, Subwoofer, Digital Remote Control & MP3 Port Tower, Water Sports - Aluminum Tubular, w/Integrated Bimini Top, Anchor Light & Wakeboard Racks

Does this include tower speakers? Also what type of premier audio equipment are we talking about, some cheap components or are the speakers and amp quality?

The standard stereo system includes a clarion deck pushing four 6.5" speakers. The system is okay, and good for a factory install. I haven't had any desire to replace the speakers or add a woofer.

The upgraded system will have a seperate amp and will add a subwoofer. Basically your mids and highs will sound the same, with a little "boom" added. Also, the remote will probably be a wired remote near the steering wheel or it could be on the swim platform. The deck will be an upgraded clarion. The standard deck does not accept wired remotes. To me, a wired remote is a must. Otherwise you will be going to the port side glove box, from your captain's chair, to change station. It is really annoying when you are increasing and decreasing speed quite a bit. Since you have to adjust the volume to either hear the music or not be blown away by it when slowing. I did this for about the first two months I owned the boat and quickly began looking for options for an upgrade.

The upgrade does not have tower speakers. I haven't seen any of the sport boats to ship from the factory with tower speakers.

How much is the added cost for you? I replaced my deck with a nice Sony one, and installed two wired remotes, one by the steering wheel and one by the swim platform. All of this cost about $400 with no labor. $300 if you minus the swim platform remote. I did all the work. Adding a woofer would cost about another $300.

Well it seems as though this has become a mute point. The boat we were looking at is the wrong color for the wife so we're back to the standard stereo equipment. Which like you I'd probably prefer to upgrade it myself so I know the quality of equipment I'm putting in the boat.

Another quick question though on the premium system. Where do they factory mount the sub and amp in the boat? I have some ideas on where I might put them but have never seen the factory locations.

I'd love pictures of the factory install if anybody has them handy.

Now that I do not know. My guess is the amp and speaker would be under the port side helm. That is where I would install one if I was going to.
